hopefully this is a semi-original dilemma that i could use much input on...
i live in las vegas and will be attending a dedicated trucking school in denver (i'll get accepted monday, barring catastrophic turn of events). and while i was eating my oven-fried chicken n lumpy mashed potatoes during dinner tonight, i thought "vegas is too close to werner for my comfort, i should stay in denver and have myself hired out of denver!"
but god bless my big sis who lives in houston, which being in texas and closest to the east side of the mississippi, i'd imagine is the best for being hired by ANY company, besides the corporate bottom feeders and werner. i assume i'd at least get better consideration from some of the smaller and better-sounding companies i've read about on here. she's willing to give me her address if i promise not to track dirt into her place and cook during the 4 days off per season i'm willing to have.
i have no desire to be home "as much as possible", no matter where "home" is. i just want to boogie around the country n get paid to do it.
so here's the mission: pretend you live in any of those three cities...which do you consider the best place to get hired out of in both volume and quality of companies, and what're some of your suggestions for each city?
thankee big-big for your advice!
Vegas, Denver, Houston?

Any tech or college with a driving school! So much better than a mill and witrh better instructors and at a much better price usually 4-5 THOUSAND dollars cheaper!
-
what driving school are you going to in Denver? Also, there isn't crap, except, Werner, Swift, and the other various "big box" trucking companies in the Denver area that are hiring. Last time my boss put an ad on Craigs List for drivers, he had 500 applications in 36 hrs, and another 200 hundred or so inquiries after taking down the ad.

Denver hands down. All freight is shipped in and out of there. Vegas is good for dry and ok for refer but you will more then likely be on a west coast company and will have to put up with CA. and it's BS. Houston sucks. Easy to get to hard to get out of.

United States Trucking School in wheat ridge CO. the name's kinda bland for my tastes, but my aunt went through them 20 years ago and said they were pretty thorough.
i hate the west, i hate the desert, i LIVE here. i'd like to go east n through the midwest as much as possible. denver and its "center of america" possibilities are pretty obvious, but it just seems like houston would be most likely to latch me onto an east coast company that'll occasionally drive west...i've heard though that houston's a pain to hire out of. not sure why yet... -
As I said, houston is very hard to get freight out over. 500 loads a day go in but 50 go out.

Huh? the truckstops are full of empty trucks on Monday waiting to deadhead someplace else to pick up a load.
Um, yeah, just wait til USTDS jacks you over. Bunch of liars, a-holes, and idiots. -
watkins shepard has a terminal in denver, co and also las vegas, nv. they run the I-5,15,70,25,90 interstate alot. go to wksh.com to get a list of all there terminals and more info. they have a 10 day training period then your off on your own. start off at .27cpm, 65mph, apu, volvo's and freightliners, get to idle your truck if no apu or just request one with an apu and when one is available you could switch trucks. 10 day training in missoula, mt. room provided, could use truck in yard to practice shifting, backing, etc., truck availablbe 24/7 during training period. kitchen in drivers lounge, showers, wireless internet, walmart nearby, company car to drive around, satellite tv. after you finish your 10 day training you get your truck and off you go with no trainer. Beats being with a trainer for 30 days, if you feel uncomfortable about going out by yourself you could request to out with another driver until your confident. open door policy with any of the staff: all the office doors all literally left open and you talk to anyone at any time as you will see when at orientation. good company to get experience. run the rocky mountains alot, fully loaded. the only bad is the pay .27cpm to start, but it beats working for these larger carriers. we have about 600 trucks.

The problem with Las Vegas is it's in the middle. Not too many products coming out of Vegas unless it's gasoline. Alot of companies will do a LV turn from CA because the miles are right. However the nice thing about NV is there's no income taxes. You'll have to go where the jobs are. I don't think you'll have a problem using your sisters address as long as you have your CDL from that state too.
