A thief will always be a thief.Same as those you hear selling DVD's in the truck stops and those that buy them. All thieves and looters.

I do know some larger companies have programs where if they suspect theft they require the driver to call in every fuel stop to have it authorized. That is far to much trouble in my opinion and agree with MarmonMan.Shoot the pricks!

All they have to do is an audit of your truck and they'll see the extra fuel. Then they will watch you until they have the goods and that driver will never work again as a truck driver. I hauled fuel and if you got caught steeling one drop of gasoline or diesel you were gone that day. There have been drivers in the past that have stolen a whole truck load and got away with it but they got caught in the end. My company would audit the sales of a station if they thought that dealer was buying fuel from a driver. If they found that he was then the drivers would be fired and the company would pull their signs from the dealer.

I've seen alot of this going on through the years. Even 20/20 did a segment on this subject. One station in CA had rigged their pumps to give less than what was being sold. They had a switch to turn it off and on. There's state workers for the weights and measurement division that have calibrated tanks in their trunks that go around to stations and buy gasoline. That's how this station got caught a woman was a state worker and she had a 10 gallon tank and put the 10 gallons in but was charged for 12 gallons. The company pulled their signs that day. What was funny to all of us drivers it was our company and when the cameras were rolling one of our trucks came up to make a drop there. The driver saw the cameras and kept going. We don't like being on the news.

ASAP lines.. use to make us call in before we got fuel.. to get a PO.. but that was before data cards.. an it was only com checks... But I have been to a few fuel stops.. that would fudge the amount.. an give the driver the extra cash for a cut of it.. but that was years ago

so if you pay a thief more, they'll change and become an honest person?

No, my point was if a driver is making a decent wage they may not become desperate enough to steal....

That's the main issue right there. I could never understand any of our drivers risking a great job for a few gallons of gasoline. I guess some people are just plain stupid.

I'm more of a cynic, I guess - If somebody is predisposed to steal, paying him or her a little more won't change the predisposition . . .
