    M,

You are correct in your understanding. Although there is no regulation that prevents getting a two year card after a limited medical certification the underlying conditions must be adequately addressed.

Today this will be hard to do. Medical examiners operste with a poor understanding of what the regulations actually require and err on the side of caution put of fear of a negligence lawsuit should you ever go injure or kill someone and it is determined you may not have been properly medically qualified.

This leaves the medical examiner with a lot of discretion to decide how to apply the regulations and their expierence as a medical professional. While DOT medical examiners are not suposed to diagnose or treat conditions they are suposed to recognize them and subit the applicant to further study by a qualified specialist. This is where sleep studies and such come into play.

I've just got my cert for 2 yrs after getting it for a year twice. Get within specs, and you'll be good

I always get mine done at CVS pharmacy clinic
But I’ve not ever had a issue with my BP
It’s always in the good zone

if I get really relaxed it can be 99/69

One think I have noticed though
I used to chug a bottle of water on the drive over to the appointment so I’d have plenty of ammo for the urine test .

I noticed this increases my BP by about ten points
Learned that when I forgot to grab a bottle of water .

so now I make the appt for early am

I get up , and don’t drink ANY thing , and don’t totally empty my bladder , drive to the clinic , have ten points lower BP
Get my card and go celebrate at the Waffle House with steak and eggs and coffee .

This is the key factor for BP. On meds equals a mandatory 1 year or less. Getting off them can equal a 2 year if your under 139/89 (but still at the examiners discretion). As for sleep apnea, I don't know. However I'd assume losing weight and then passing a new test is what would be required?

This has always been my problem. Everytime I go to the doc my BP goes up to 140/ 80 -150/90 ish. At home it's always 130/70ish. Very frustrating and I always get a one year card. I take a low dose of BP med so I get a one year anyway. White coat syndrome sucks

The medical protocol for taking an accurate BP measurement requires 5 minutes of the patient doing nothing, no talking, no writing, just sitting. If you are near the borderline insist on taking 5 minutes instead of the common techniques of taking your BP while they ask you questions, a half second after they walk in the room while they ask you to prepare for jogging, balancing, undressing, etc. You have the right to 5 minutes of relaxed waiting.

This was established in the late 90's.
You don't have a blood pressure, it varies based on your activity and mood, as well as which portion of the body where the reading is taken. The reading (s) can vary depending on who is taking them, that's one of the reasons for only using even numbers when taking it manually.
