I don't know how old you are, but I am gen x, and my parents believed in a good beating for blaming others when it was out fault.
By age 8 you knew the consequences.Sons Hero, Sirscrapntruckalot, PoleCrusher and 4 others Thank this. -

With the new rule the government is trying to pass like the AB5 rule. We very well could have the answer of how to fix it. I am against it but it would be to a owner operator with own authority advantage. More people that are leased on would rather go work for someone and be a employee than do all the paperwork and booking loads themselves.MartinFromBC, D.Tibbitt, gentleroger and 2 others Thank this.

One check for the truck, one check for the driver. That’s how a lot of the union companies used to do it back in the old days.Jubal Early Times, Short Fuse EOD, Siinman and 5 others Thank this.

From what I’ve read, the Dept of Labor is talking about if there’s financial risk or not and who bears the risk of profit and loss. If that’s the road that they’re going down then guys like me should be ok. It would effect people doing a lease purchase from the company that they get all their work from. If you finance on your own or own your truck outright then you can walk from a carrier at any time.

I don't have a dog in this race because I'm still just in possession of a commercial permit, and I have nothing of substance to add as far as experience goes, but I read everything I can get my eyes/hands on.
I've thoroughly enjoyed following this thread.
Whether anyone realizes it or not, threads like this give people thinking about trying to break into the industry a decent amount of knowledge about what to expect.

Was talking to one of my brokers the other day that is with a large brokerage and he claims the first of the year it is gonna get real bad. A lot of that was from long term contracts going to #### like the spot market rates. Plan on next year to be way worse is what he told me. I can see it moving in that direction as well with the way the market is moving. Hopefully not so much!God prefers Diesels and D.Tibbitt Thank this.

The main lessons to gleen from here are 1. Don't blame the broker.
2. Don't take, or give advice on rates from others.
3. Be your own person, dance to the beat of your own drum.
4. Know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em, as a wise old man named Mr. Rogers used to sing.Sirscrapntruckalot, God prefers Diesels, D.Tibbitt and 2 others Thank this. -
Like I said I am not for it at all. Was just pointing out it would make it harder and make more owner ops more money on the spot market I think. Could be very wrong on that since more company drivers less freight to haul on spot? Anyways that new thing they are pushing in government I don't think that way will work anymore. I guess the labor department is also trying to get involved with it as well. Gonna be a big mess if it goes anywhere.MartinFromBC Thanks this.
