Maybe 6 years ago I applied at Saia. Was currently a local driver making $16.25. I believe they would pay $21-23 an hour. I had the best resume you could ever hope for.
10 years accident free
No tickets
Clean background
Associates degree
Driver trainer
Letter of recommendation from ceo of Fortune 500 company
Letter of recommendation from trainer at saia
First interview I was 1 of 32 people. Second interview I was 1 of 9. I didn’t make a 3rd interview.
Now I drive for myself OTR. I take 12 week long vacations a year. It’s better than LTL.
Disregarding MVR, why don’t you work LTL?

Personally, I don’t want to go to 15 different customers each day. This is to say nothing of how some places are not designed for tractor trailers.
LilRedRidingHood, JoeyJunk and Rubber duck kw Thank this. -
Also, I can make 6 figures doing no-touch OTR and avoid having to slipseat a nasty truck...or paying out of pocket to commute in traffic everyday.snowlauncher, gentleroger, JoeyJunk and 1 other person Thank this. -

I have way too low a boredom threshold for LTL.

I know there are the rare daytime linehaul exceptions. -
A lot of people don't like the hours and unpredictability. If you start out on the extra board and on call, I don't care how "good" the job is, not even close to everyone is going to make it.
LTL is paid well, but it's hard-earned. Especially in the beginning.tscottme Thanks this.
