I really need advice from pneumatic tank drivers !! I will be load/unloading sand for gas co. The trainer showed me once how to operate the tank (I have an idea though)---I'm not comfortable with that!!!
Can anybody advise me where I can find vidoes on the procedures from step one ....from setting the idle--what lines to open / close ect. and how to get the line unclogged if it happens.
I would really appreciate it
Thanks
j.

most tanks that are in good condition still have a sticker on the side with instructions. if not just take your time and think about where you want the product to go, and remember, the product can't move against pressure, take pressure away from where you want the product to go.
low tank pressure, or high tank pressure is bad. try to keep it about midways and you shouldn't stop up.jaykal81 Thanks this. -
#1 always use bottom air! Forget the top air as it will pack the load down. #2 do not idle more than 1800-1900 RPM or what your company advises you to do. #3 watch the tank pressure. I never go over 12-13 PPI (there should be a plate with your pressures on it some where on the tank most usually by the pressure gauge) as more than that can cause the lines to clog and it's not fun sucking product back to the tank! #4 Keep some rags and a bottle of water to use if a hatch seal starts to leak, just wet the rag, pop the hatch and put the wet rag down and close and lock the hatch. DRAIN THE TANK PRESSURE FIRST!
The rest you'll pick up and don't be afraid to ask another guy pumping out in front of you! -
I appreciate you guys helping out !!!!! Man you would somewhere on the internet you could find actual instructions----never thought to find them on the tank or in cab!!!!

Another thing to remember, is never let the pressure get above what the manufacture recommends. I know a guy who went into his truck and did not bother to watch, and the tanker opened up like a can of sardines. Use your line valve to rasue or lower your presur as needed. If you do get cloged the best thing to do is open up the line valve all the way, then open and close the tank valve to force pressure to the line.. I use to haul powder and the recommended rpm on the pump was no higher than 1100.

If your pop off valve isn't working, get it replaced, this is a safety feature. I just hope he isn't stuck with some old piece of junk that has never been taken care of.

I've hauled the sand they use in water filtration plants. Not all sand trailers are alike. The one I had you only used the aerators to pressurize the tank, no top air, and the line valve to blow it out. If the line pressure goes over 12 psi it may be starting to plug up. It took 1 3/4 hrs to blow off 48,000 lbs. I was about 100 ft from the silo. The further the product has to travel the longer it will take, usually.
