Truck is in the shop for clutch to be looked at. Clutch pedal was stiffer than stiff yesterday and parked it over night and this morning wasn’t near as stiff. Hydraulic clutch. Fluid level full. Shop said clutch just needed adjustment. I had taken cover off to look in it. Has a lot of shaving in there atleast to me.
How much is to much for metal shaving ? Pictures attached . Clutch bell housing

If the throw out bearing ain’t rattling loud, and the clutch ain’t slipping, keep going. Just make sure you have enough free play. Have them adjust the clutch and the clutch brake linkage “IF” the transmission doesn’t go into gear from a stop.
Edit;
Second thought, some light shavings you say ?, stiff, probably clutch springs coming apart. I’m not to familiar with those hydraulic set ups. See what the shop tells you.Last edited: Nov 16, 2022
BoxCarKidd Thanks this. -
Thanks for the response! Yesterday when I pressed the clutch pedal In I had never felt a clutch take so much effort to press it in. But when I did press it in it sounded like something was rattling so I thought clutch was toast. This morning I started it and went to drop it off at the shop it wasn’t stiff and didn’t hear the rattling noise like it was yesterday. Thought that was real strange. But yeah. I never used so much effort to engage a clutch .

Do you know if you have a self adjusting clutch ? Those might act up, then the next day they act normal. I threw mine away when I had the transmission redone.
-
I’m not sure if it’s self adjusting. How would I know that?
-
I would just keep a close eye on it by checking it when it gets greased every month. If the input shaft is moving around it could be binding? I've never heard of broken springs making it stiffer but stranger things have happened.

Is it air assisted?
-
I believe so!

I’ll keep an eye on it. Shop said they adjusted the clutch. I thought the hydraulic clutches were self adjusting but I’m no mechanic! I think I’ll be buying a clutch just to have so when it goes I only have to worry about the labor. Wish I was capable of doing it myself! One day I’m hoping to have a shop so I can do more. But for now all I have is a driveway with crushed concrete and won’t be rolling anything around on it LOL . Not to mention it’s only 10 degrees and only gunna get colder!

I had one with mechanical linkage in a 388. Hard to push one time. Have to shut off or jam it in gear the next time. Kind of load the engine when stopped at a traffic light in gear sometimes. Then work great for days at a time. It had pieces of broken springs in the housing. Unusual it was.
With the metal sparkles in his pics I wonder if he has springs rubbing on flywheel bolts or a busted clutch hub.Oxbow, special-k, Rideandrepair and 1 other person Thank this.
