Pretty sure you link is wrong, not by a lot, but it ###### sure wasn't the 70's. Pretty sure that the system became a "thing" in 47

Probably a thing in the upper Midwest. Never heard of it until the late 80’s.
As I said, we were taught Defensive driving.

There are still a lot of drivers who in 2022 have never heard of Smith System. When it comes right down to it.. Smith isn't really for truck drivers as they have actually had further driver training since they got their original driver's license. Its for the middle aged people who after getting their licenses have had NO further training. Most drivers I train answer the questions I ask the same way. 1. How good a passenger are you now? 2. Do you drive even your car the same way you did before you got a CDL? and I ask them if being truthful, if they drove more or less the same way before getting a CDL that those four wheelers who drive them nuts today? The answer whether they are honest or not is ABSOLUTELY.. they were just un trained drivers doing what it is that the average driver does. The whole driving experience in this country is NOT about driving safely.. its about getting from here to there as fast and as selfishly as possible.

It's less explicit law regarding speeding and more an explicit law regarding left lane lurking. Here is a link to Florida's law. 316.081 paragraph 2 states "Upon all roadways, any vehicle proceeding at less than the normal speed of traffic at the time and place and under the conditions then existing shall be driven in the right-hand lane then available for traffic or as close as practicable to the right-hand curb or edge of the roadway except when overtaking and passing another vehicle proceeding in the same direction or when preparing for a left turn at an intersection or into a private road or driveway."

I've held a CDL since 2001, and driven full time since '09. Never had any Smith system training. Never took drivers education in high school either.

To be honest, I'm probably not considered a 'good, safe driver'. At least my wife says so. But I can honestly say, when I'm in my personal vehicle, I'm not nearly as attentive as when I'm in the truck. Part of that is I'm usually wandering around some back road in Nowhere, PA.
In the truck, it's totally different. I guess I have my game face on, if you will.

People have explained the Smith system to me, and I have a hard time with their bullet points (Aim high in steering comes to mind). Without really thinking it through, my immediate thought is 'who's the desk jockey that thought that up?' But doing a little digging and reading, it kinda makes sense, and I realized I'm already doing it- in the truck.

This whole topic hase thinking I may need to reevaluate my driving habits

Just like the other laws posted that one doesn't allow one to exceed the posted speed limit. Just because slower traffic has to keep right does not mean one can break other laws (speed limit) in the left hand lane.

The same way that those laws don't say that you can exceed the speed limit, they also don't say you have to be under the speed limit for those laws to take effect.

Think about the effect on traffic safety. Which causes more problems, a vehicle exceeding the speed limit by a few miles an hour, or a vehicle traveling the speed limit in the left lane which happens to be less than the speed of average traffic flow. That's why the move right laws were passed.

Now quit the pedantic arguing about a point that only you are reading into the law, something you are accusing everyone else of doing. Nowhere in the move right laws does it say anything about them being invalid if traffic is exceeding the posted speed limit!

When did I ever say the move right law is invalid if traffic is breaking the speed limit law?
Because if you read that into anything I wrote, you really do need to learn to read as I've specifically said the opposite.

Maybe the person that keeps claiming a law exists but refuses to post it, or posts something that has nothing to do with speeding needs to realize he's full of it.

P.s. if you don't like me pointing out others are wrong, you can always put me on ignore.
