You may have to learn the hard way...thats totally up to you.Anyone that's been in the trucking industry for a substantial amount of time will tell you that out of all the "mega carriers", werner and their business ethics and way they treat their drivers, is by Far the worst;heard it on the CB tooo many times, plus I know, I drove for them. And most of them are people that haven't even drove for them.Im tellin ya, you can believe me or not believe me but if I were you I would drive for anybody BUT werner. If I were to "go into detail", id be typin for the next 8 hours..my advice would be:read through this forum, there is lot's of information on here.. I dont have any type of grudge against them persay, I just tell it like it is. The things I saw go on and heard while employed there made me sick, you can't take pride in working for werner no matter how hard you try. If they were a good, respectable company and the people that have been done wrong by them were bad employees then it would be a different story, but its not. Out of all of the major carriers, especially out of the mega carriers werner would be the last outfit you would want to be employed by. So ugh..take your chances with them, thats about all I can tell ya. GoodLuck![]()

Truth is in the numbers.
When reviewing ANY company for potential employment, look at the turnover numbers.
Any company training lots of drivers and new-hires is a company that is not taking care of the drivers they already have. It is a fact that No. 1 trucking company Schneider National, Inc., recruited 125 drivers in Werner Enterprises' backyard beginning in 1997:

It is difficult to believe that if Werner had instituted any real changes to their driver retention program that they would STILL be having problems reducing drive turnover THIRTEEN years later.
In fact, there are companies that have abandoned their driver retention program altogether and are following a new business model based on the airlines that simply constantly trains new-hires. This works because the companies significantly reduce their labor costs by maintaining a high driver turnover, which eliminates bonuses, higher wages and benefits. It's basically a company that keeps hiring employees at minimum wage and works them part-time to keep from paying out higher wages and keeping costs down because low retention means a lower cost benefit outlay as well. And it is real easy to keep the turnover rate high--just limit the hours and limit the loads and limit the miles--bankruptcy (of the drivers) and repossessions and inertia will take care of the rest.Last edited: Feb 14, 2010

Sounds to good to be true !!!!
Is It ?????? -
Did they tell you you'd be working on the Dollar General account? That's the only way I can imagine you'd make $1,000 per week, starting out, and still be home every weekend.
And even then, "every weekend" is more like one day off, but I digress.
In any case, recruiters will tell you what you want to hear. There's no way they can guarantee you'll be on any dedicated account, much less a specific one.
I wouldn't get my hopes up so high, if I were you. Expect not to be home very much. Expect to gross on average about $600-650 per week -- after the very lengthy training program, assuming you make it that far.
The recruiters' job is to blow smoke.
I'm not trying to be a downer here; I'm just trying to moderate your expectations a bit. If you walk in that terminal (BTW, Allentown's one of the worst ones) thinking you're going to pull in $50K+ and every weekend at home, you're just setting yourself up for major disappointment. Major, major, major -- can't emphasize that enough.
Good luck to you. -
Yea my bf had the 1 week on 1 day off thing and it was barely 24 hours to turn around in - not enough time to relax or get any errands done so he's on the 2 weeks out 2 days home. He's usually home around 6pm Friday and then back out 6 pm Sunday - just 2 days, they don't play.
And his pay is avg. $500 to $600 a week but some weeks are very slow, or if he needs to go into a terminal for some kind of repair he is sitting for days.
Can anyone tell me what Werner's 'late' policy is. My bf was late by a few hours to a drop and they called him up and told him it counts as his first 'late' but we don't know how many he gets and what happens if he gets 1 too many.
Kinda sucks that there's no appreciation (besides getting to keep your job) for getting there on time but the second you are late you get chewed out over the phone.
Oh well...

More times then not they will try to charge you for a late load even if they dont have to or if it isnt your fault so when it comes time to get rid of you it will be easier..thats prety much why....werner---fire to hire
They pack the classrooms everyweek and have been doing this for over 10 years that I know of. How are you going to put students in trucks and get money from uncle sam if there are already drivers in them. They set you up for failure for the most part. Prety much how it goes, it comes from up top that cuts need to be made and goes all the way down to the bottom (dispatchers).
Noone wants to have the least amount of cuts or lose their job and likewise, whoever can get more cuts is doing a better job then the next guy..Last edited by a moderator: Feb 18, 2010

well the didin't not charge him and because it was in Long Island they even still gave him the extra $30 or $40.
I'm not trying to bash Werner. My last line was kinda out of frustration because my bf called me pissed off about it.
I'm just trying to find out how many strikes (Regarding being late) you get before you get more than just a reaming out over the phone. -
Me too!
You are the poster child of about 100 drivers on here trying to keep people from making a major mistake.
Now if you can live on a net of about $300 a week for a few years your good to go.
Anyway, give us an update when something changes.
