If your check engine light is coming on, there should be a fault stored. There's a lot of things can can cause a stumble and rough running, start with a known check engine light and get the fault code.
I have seen many cracked IVA housings get missed on a diagnosis and lots of injector harness issues on the Acerts. Many other issues too. Once you get the fault, post back and we'll go from there.

I’ve been having the same probs with my 07’ c15 Acert. I’ve rebuilt the water recirc valve, six pack of injectors, injector harness, overhead, new t-stats, had cac checked for leaks, replaced air filters, changed fuel filter brands. I’ve done everything I can think of and no one can figure it out because it’s never thrown a code so no one seems to be able to diagnose it without the computer telling them what’s wrong for them... KW checked coolant for exhaust and nothing. It doesn’t burn coolant. But it coughs and puffs white/gray smoke if it isn’t 180 or warmer. It takes a week and a half to warm up even at high idle. And I can feel a miss at an idle but it has all new injectors and passes cutout tests... Tired of worrying that it’s fixing to blow lol. Pulls amazingly once it warms up tho... I’ll be driving and it will just throw a little cloud of black smoke every now and then. Just random. Not pulling hard or changing foot feed at all when it does it either...
Oxbow Thanks this. -

Nothing Wrong with your engine....
2 reasons .....
Read this
Cold Mode on Status Flags Caterpillar ET Software - Blog.Teknisi
2nd is IVA starting mode IVA doesn't work when it detects water temp 20°c less it starts when engine temp is 167°F or coolant temp sensor is off or atmospheric pressure sensor and intake air temp oh also Boost temp I have cat literature on IVA why it derate and when and for how long usually it derates because IVA VVA are not working due to thick engine oil so ECM derates engine to avoid damage caused by50- 60psi boost
Nothing is wrong with engine it's just cat ideas .... So stop spending money on unnecessary repairs better use that money on something worth......
