What I don't understand is why they unloaded it in the first place , did they call you on the carpet after first piece was pulled off to show you.

Let the insurance deal with it, you are going to take a hit no matter what. Write up an accurate document of events. who said what, when they said it and what you were going to do. Have it in chronological form, include copies of all the documents and submit it to the insurance company.

Chances are they will pay, which is BS.

How much is the claim, and do you have salvage rights since you say it’s a brokered load?

I would ask the customer for pictures of the damaged product. They need to prove that their freight was damaged. I would assume that your insurance company would deny a claim without proof of damages.
Yes you can demand to see the damaged product, and if you pay for it, you own it. If they discarded the product and have no pictures, they have no leg to stand on.

    Call your insurance agent immediately.
I had a claim like yours. Stainless steel rolls, double tarped. Receiver claimed wet and damaged material. Wetness was from tarp removal. Many pictures taken before, during and after unloading in warehouse.
Insurance company took care of procedure.
I don't know if a claim was accepted. I didn't have to pay a deductible and received no notice of a claim.

Since that load, I haven't hauled any loads that have "keep dry" on the rate confirmation. I feel if they need keep dry, ship in a Conestoga or a van.
    Good luck.
