Commercial driving education for non commercial drivers

In theory it is a great idea. The reality is bad drivers are already ignoring the rules of the road, driving is ONLY background activity they allow their brain to do if they are not too busy with their smartphone. People don't change behavior just because they learn something. Think of how long it took to cut the number of people smoking cigarettes from 50% to the current level. It required 1-2 generations of concerted public service ad campaigns, jackings up the price to obscene amounts per pack, and other things. People stop thinking about their driving habits the day after they get their DL at age 16 or when their car insurance goes up. Not enough even know there are other vehicles on THEIR road. Every dangerous thing they se and do just confirms to them, they are the only good drivers on the road. "If I wasn't such a great driver I would have hit somebody when I passed that truck by driving on the sidewalk for a quarter mile yesterday."

Absolutely correct! And the only people teaching driver education of any fashion on a secondary level are history, science teachers or some sort of coach. I have never seen any that can drive by the rules of the road and such for squat. They are interested in boosting the ole pay check. In my state a kid never has to take a road test to get a DL. No interaction with a Trooper or a person trained in the subject whatever. These dummy parents, that have ridden along with theirs dummy parents, are riding along with their kids, on their phone! What could go wrong!!??
