Until they show you settlement sheets/pay stubs/W4s, take any figures being thrown out with a grain of salt.

People have a way of crafting their words to make it seem like they are doing much better than they are. Like that hotshot driver my brother kept telling me about. "He is making a killing, you should buy your own rig etc etc". I kept telling my brother that I just don't see many (any?) Hotshots that seem to be raking it in as this guy claims he is. Brother asks him for hard figures. Turns out the dude was grossing $120K per year, after truck payments, insurance etc, he had $60K left and still had to pay taxes on that.

Just for reference, if you got $1,150 on a 1099 that is your GROSS, not your NET. When comparing earnings and income as company employees, you should always use Gross as the benchmark, because everyone's tax withholdings are different. Example: John grosses $1,000 and nets $700, Bob grosses $1000 and nets $642, they both make $1,000, their net is irrelevant in the conversation.

I would say if he is paying taxes on $60,000 then he is doing better than 90% of the LO/OO'S out there.

Or he is doing his taxes wrong.

Base w2 is usually 13-15 percent. Medicare, legal, and state and federal. Just speaking from years of my own w2 checks and filing 1040EZ..

At least 113k to net 100k
