Hey all - I'm a fleet analyst for a fleet of medium duty trucks and we've recently experienced some collapsed roofs due to ice/snow. We were already in the process of discussing how to remove the snow/ice, but apparently were a day late and a dollar short.

So, how do all of you remove the ice/snow from your trucks? With the news of a possible law regarding snow/ice removal, we are looking for the most 'safety conscious' way to rid our trucks of the snow/ice without jeopardizing our drivers safety.

Thank you all for your input.

P.S. - If there is a better forum for my question please let me know.

    Thanks,
    Sara

It was our Baltimore. MD branch that got all the snow. We are running 26' straight trucks (2004 Internationals) and due to the weight of the snow/ice 2 of our roofs collapsed over the weekend. Just trying to find a way to prevent it in the future.

    They are 26' straight trucks; 33K GVW; 2004 International 4300 and 2006-2007 International 4400.

    I was just joking......

I have no idea, thought those roofs could handle snow weight.
Others will have some useful advice !!

Yeah we thought they could handle it too. We are assuming that the fiberglass just deteriorated and buckled. There was only about 1.5 feet of snow on the roof. It is kind of weird that both trucks were backed up to the bay doors and they both collapsed inthe exact same way.
We need to find a strategy for removing the snow/ice safely as well as figuring out why this happened.
Can you patch a fiberglass roof or will it be too weak?

I have no idea but if you make the drivers do it, please pay them to do so and provide them with training and safety equipment.
