I'm working on my 3rd cup of coffee of 2023.
I'd try keeping track for the year, but I'd probably lose track of the number in about 2 weeks......
What if it Snows?

At this time, the newest generation may be viable for City dwellers, if they have a parking space that can have a level 2 charger installed, and marginal for suburbanites again with the parking spot disclaimer. Teslas are not the newest generation. They are an archaic mess of junk pulled together by California techies, not even auto enthusiasts let alone automotive engineers. The offerings from Nissan, Ford, and GM are marginally better than the Tesla. The Nissan offering is so archaic it either needs a skip generation redesign or be allowed to expire. The Rivan and all the other Alt manufacturers are very marginal in engineering and are overpriced. They are more a status symbol than a practical automobile.... Kinda like the Tesla.
The newest Generation of Viable cars for urban based people are the KIa EV6/Hyundai Ioniq 5, and the 2023 Kia Niro EV. The Toyoto/Subabru co-produced car that was supposed to be released in 2022 but has slipped again to mid 2023 may be of interest and viable.
To charge the new Niro EV at the house the electricity will run run about 2 cents per mile. Rate equivalent at a big quick charger on the road is 8 cents per mile. Gas for the hybrid costs about 8 cents per mile. Price at the Tesla Rapid Chargers is higher.
Cold weather is an Achilles heal for EVs. It is directly related to battery chemistry, the batteries stop working good in the cold. Combine that with all the extra load of heating the passengers compartment for comfort (not survival) is too much to ask of current battery chemistry. If I lived a thousand feet higher in altitude or Further inland where snow and freezing are more common I would not own one. One of the new things on the Niro is on onboard Heat pump that will pre-heat and top up the battery pack, also will preheat the cabin. This will help mitigate the cold condition for me.Cattleman84, Freddy57, austinmike and 8 others Thank this. -
Just watched a fella that parked his hatchback in the last spot of a large parking lot walking to his car. Wore his mask all the way there. Moved it to spit something out and put back in place. I think i saw a Covid cloud near his car. He really was risking it.

The OM and I are very thankful heading into the new year. We could easily be one of the tens of millions of Americans, do to unchecked inflation, without a warm shelter and strategic ham on a day like this.
