I don't get why everybody has to slag the OP. This thread reminds of when I bought my BMW 525i and took it to the next family gathering.
My brother in law loudly berated me in front of everybody for wasting my money, insisting that his Honda Accord could do everything better for less money. He was adamant that he'd driven a BMW and his Honda drove better, rode better, was faster and more comfortable than a BMW and I was a fool for spending all that money.
When he finally finished and walked away, my nephew, who was standing next to me, rolled his eyes, shrugged his shoulders and said; "Ignorance is bliss."
Everybody has a right to their opinions AND desires. After a few months of hauling fuel in a nanny-laden small block autoshift Cascadia, I would rather flip burgers than do that again, I don't care how polished out and lit up it was. And the issue to me isn't the Cascadia. The last two trucks I owned were Cascadia's, they were both 505 HP and nanny free. I wonder how many people that bad mouth hoods have actually driven one in an application where they excel.
Any companys with real trucks

I would never bad mouth a hood... but... there are only a few operations where they actually excel. Mostly things like pipeline, oilfield, construction, and logging. In these ops, the bad aerodynamics don't matter that much, because of the amount of time you spend at relatively low speeds. Plus they have fewer plastic bits on the hood, and are less likely to have aero trim to get destroyed on crappy lease roads. On purely OTR or even regional operations, there is NOTHING a classic can do that an aerodynamic truck can't do more efficiently.Boardhauler, tarmadilo and DRTDEVL Thank this.

Add farming and livestock hauling, and your list is just about complete for hoods.

Well...ALMOST. I drove wind turbine blades with a hood and made more $$ than I ever thought possible.Concorde Thanks this.

That would fall under "construction," would it not?

Most folks: "What do you care what kind of truck you're in? They'll all get the job done."
Me: " So will one ply toilet paper. I do have my preferences and standards I'll go with two"Boardhauler and Gearjammin' Penguin Thank this. -
But if you OWN the truck and are paying for the fuel, why would you elect to buy a more expensive truck and spend about 15k more per year on fuel on top of that? For OTR/Regional linehaul it makes little sense.alds Thanks this.

I bought my hood truck because it’s the Jeep Wrangler of trucks. If you take care of it you got no idea what year it is unless you know little details. I feel this helps keep my inspections at a minimum. Also it rides smoother with a longer wheelbase and is paper logs.
That is just jealousy on the Honda guy. Nothing else.
D.Tibbitt, CalculatedRisk and Boardhauler Thank this. -
Why this thread is idiotic and useless
- Unless you're a relative or friend or friend of a friend you're not getting on with a company that runs long nosed trucks
- Most of the people you see running them are REAL owner-operators.. Not lease.. More so: most are people who refinanced a house or sold some property and bought in to trucking after a career in another industry or generational wealth...

dang sure fooled me. so folks,,,whats it like to drive a reel truck? belt buckle, driving gloves?
