I bought my 05 BXS with 600K on it, now has 695K and zero problems. I also have a 13 speed with 3:36's on 22.5 lo pros. After finding that it likes Delvac it now uses 2 gallons of oil in the 30,000 mile oil change. Also got the fuel mileage up from 4.8 to 6.3 from what I learned on this forum. And looking for more......

does anyone know if these can be switched to a single turbo
-
Sure they can be converted to single turbo.depends which Acert you have. mostly done on BXS. MXS/NXS can be corrected by other means. read the Cat and Acert threads .all the info is heresidekick72 Thanks this.
-
If your checkbook is big enough and you like laggy peformance. I've heard theres way more to it than just swapping turbos and piping.
What's the reasoning behind wanting the conversion? -
have read an article from pittsburg diesel power they affirm that acert exaust system is to restrictive and egt rise to high if you want real power,
anyway for more precise information check their website they does the conversion too -
I'm sorry, but PP is full of bull. I am running a stock exhaust and intake on my MXS...and a 800 HP tune from Bully Dog. The highest my EGT reaches is maybe 900 on a long drawn out pull and max weight. I will say I haven't confirmed the 800 HP tune on a dyno yet, but the truck will pull any hill I want with ease and I haven't even went past 1/2 throttle yet. Yes the stock ACERT turbos may get restrictive when a person gets into the higher HP numbers, but why switch to a big single and lose all the benefits of the ACERT design. I've heard of a guy that has found part numbers for aftermarket turbos that are a step or two bigger than the stock ACERTs. This is the way to go in my mind if you are planning big power out of a ACERT.

How much boost are seeing at full power?
Would be interensted to see what that tune makes on the dyno.
The 625 turbo combination is an easy upgarde for a 550, the only diffenerce between the two is the high pressure turbo inlet and exhaust snails, only problem is you cant buy those bits separately from Cat
.... anyone know of an aftermaket source for Acert turbos?
-
I haven't put the motor under full power yet...mostly cause I don't need it. The highest boost I have seen is about 68-70 PSI, then I blew a hump hose off of the elbow coming out of the air-water cooler. Before I go to full power I want to replace the clutch of course, redo my intake tubes so there is only about 1" of gap that the hump hoses have to cross, double clamp the hoses, and maybe even a better CAC. I'm excited about seeing what the a fairly stock ACERT can do with just tuning.
A aftermarket source for these turbos should be coming out sooner or later. Heck with all the modified ACERTs that are starting to pop up a person would think that the aftermarket guys would be pushing products already.Jas Thanks this. -
With that much boost it might be time to use tie bars across the hump hoses. We had a T908 Kenworth with a 625 Acert that kept blowing the hose off at the intake of the aftercooler, double clamped, new hoses, tried everything, the only way we could get it to stay on was putting Loctite 401 under the hump hose before we clamped it.

I've definetly thought about the tie bars, but not the Loctite...thanks for the idea.
