cat put a reman head on my 3406e and now i get a ticking sound every once in awhile. went back to cat they found the timing off one tooth on the gear. i can also hear a flutter in my jake once in awhile. could my valve lash be off when they ran the overhead when the timing gear was one tooth off?oh yeh the reason for the reman head i was pushing water out of the raitiator. guess what still is pushing water. any other reason why it could still be doing this? so sick of ohio cat telling me what i can and can,t do.

How r ya, sorry to hear about the problem. It does seem likely the valve lash could be off. I would say the first thing I would do if it were my truck and I believe in the phrase seeing is believing, I would remove the valve covers and have someone just crank the engine over but not start it. Carefully look at all of the valve springs and rocker arms, if one of them seems it isnt opening (down) or closing (up) as all the others that would be your problem. Not to scare you but that will also tell you if one of the lobes on the cam are going flat, and that could be caused by improper valve lash adjustment. Best of luck to ya and hope its something simple, keep us posted!!

air compresser could be pumping air into the cooling system
cracked liner could also do that (lets hope not though)
as for the ticking i agree on the top end set especially if its sounds kinda weird on the jake ....... if you remove the valve covers then make sure the rocker hold down bolts are all tight
if you hadnt just put on a reman head I would consider broken valve spring
also do you have any exhaust leaks ?? -
no exhaust leaks. that another sound i,m familer with. i was wondering if it might be the aircompreser. that is what i am replacing next. anyone know who i could conntact to download an ecm program for a 2WS pre nox settings.

Mr. Haney comes with excellent credentials...

I had the same problem and it was an exhaust leak. I checked several times and finally found it.
I would google "ecm program for a 2WS pre nox settings" and that might help. -
Sounds like u got a cracked liner flange - to determin weather or not its the liner or air compressor u can cap or plug your coolant line goin from head of air comp. To side of block, then clamp off the flexable coolant hose to comp.head remove flex hose end at air comp. - attach a garden hose to barb where flex hose came from, turn on hose (doesn't have 2 b flat-out - just a good flow to cool head/cyl.)
start up engine and get 2 operating temp and c if cooling system is still pressurizing? If it is u got a 99% chance of a cracked liner. Remove sump fit a pressure tester and c if any coolant comes down the inside of a liner.
