With no experience, you know you are starting at the bottom, and usually will be a van trailer, cross country. If you are doing it for the alleged riches you'll make, t'aint so. A starting driver will be lucky to make $50gs/year, a far cry from the $100 grand I'm sure they told you. Just so you know, 50% of new drivers quit in the 1st 6 months, and 50% of those remaining, don't make it a year, so the odds are against you. Just make sure this is what you want to do.

Exactly. And wind up quitting under a training contract, terrible idea. Roehl is way overpriced on their "schooling". 7k +.

A lot depends on what youre looking for. You could be home everyday and make great money. Plenty of opportunities right in Milwaukee. Lots of LTL and food service offer driver training. Milwaukee and Waukesha tech schools offer Cdl training(both are great programs.

Last time I checked a few months ago, Halvor only asks for $3,000 for breaking their contract. That's not bad; most private CDL schools cost more than that. And I think their driving commitment is only 1 year.

What's the company out of Marshfield that hires new grads? I think they have a lot in Florida too but I can't remembering the name. One driver on here was working for them for a while.

Schneider is out of Green Bay so they have quite of a few opportunities near Milwaukee: Find truck driving jobs near Milwaukee, WI | Schneider. You can even start out as a tanker driver at Schneider, which is pretty rare at other companies for new drivers. They recently switched to $10/hourly pay for all on-duty time in addition to cpm. (I'd avoid the Dollar General/Family Dollar accounts unless you really like unloading trucks by hand--not pallet jacks, hand.)

You can also look at Millis Transfer, based out of Richfield, WI. They had a very good reputation, but were recently bought out by Heartland Express, and I don't know how that might have changed things over there. EIther way, the training pay is a little low (44 cpm) and only goes up to 49 cpm once out of training, but you'd get to drive a Kenworth, they provide 3 weeks of vacation in the first year, and they pay for a Direct TV subscription, TVs in the trucks, and Sirius XM Radio. They're also governed at 70 mph which is good (most larger companies are around 65 mph or even slower), and you can opt out of the driver-facing camera, which is nice. (As far as I know driver-facing cameras are mandatory at Roehl.) More info here: Millis Training Institute - Announcing Our Free Apprenticeship Program

Lastly, there's also Veriha, but they have such a ridiculous payback amount if you leave early ($12,000) that I don't mention them to people much; I only mentioned them here because they are in Wisconsin, out of Marinette. And there's a smaller carrier called Karl's Transport in Antigo, WI that trains new drivers, but they're very Christian and might not be a good fit. If you stay with them for 18 months though, the training is free, and if you leave earlier it's prorated (check out details here). Could be a good fit if you are looking for a small company environment that trains new drivers, but may not be better than Schneider or Millis if you want a more standard introduction to the industry.
