So you shouldn't be loyal to a company, because there is a chance thecompany will stab you in the back? Don't agree. I will be loyal to a company, until they show me different. Then it's a whole new ballgame....

My loyalty to any company is limited only by my ability to earn a good income (as defined by me) and being treated fairly. The moment either factor begins to suffer, my loyalty goes out the window.

Aka- Capitalism. Free will.

It's a question of the definition of 'loyalty'.
Is 'loyalty' showing up for work every day and doing your job to the best of your ability? Is it staying late without extra pay to get the job done? Is it canceling your family vacation because of a work emergency?
In my opinion, companies tend to expect more loyalty than they offer in return.wulfman75, jcatel, navypoppop and 10 others Thank this. -
Of course, it is what they pay for.

This. At the end of the day you're a number. Killing yourself to make the owner/ceo/whatever extra money isn't worth it. No ones going to put their neck on the line to save your job, why should you?dwells40, BeHereNow97, JohnBoy and 1 other person Thank this.

Yep, and the "new breed of drivers" are just playing by the rules your generation made.
Millenials and Generation Z are not in charge of companies at a higher management level (by and large). So, you cannot blame the work culture on us, as we have simply adapted to the rules that your generation has decided to make.
Sure, by all means, network and make contacts with the people that you work with. And if you want to take it a step further, ironically, there is a word for what you're describing about having more comradery and binding together for a greater show of strength instead of the every man for himself and "what's in it for me" attitude - That word is called:
Union
But, I have a feeling (and please correct me if I'm wrong) that you think "Union" is a dirty word, which ironically leads to situations with what is going down at your company right now, where they can and they are indeed firing at will right this instant. You can't have your cake and eat it too. You either get more protections with Unions, or you play by pure capitilism where it's every man for himself and you do what you gotta do.
Okay, well it seems that you have made up your mind. If your mind is made up and it's all going to go to #### and you don't want to wait to see if any of this will even directly affect you in the first place, then if it were me and I was an older man where stress related problems become 100X more deadly than when you are younger, then I would start researching new companies to work for tonight and not waste anymore time dragging this whole thing out. No point in writing about the bad changes if your mind is made up and you're hellbent on leaving anyways, might as well be using that time to research other companies instead.Last edited: Feb 4, 2023

Okay, so then in my opinion he needs to start looking for a new job today then and stop dragging this thing out if he doesn't want to wait and see what happens, and already has his mind made up before letting things play out.

When breaking down the relationship between employers and employees in basic legal terms of English Common Law the questions of loyalty are quite clear.
The employer is the "Master" and the employee is the "Servant", legally speaking.
Of course the employee or "Servant" is going to be more loyal to the employer or "Master" than the other way around. It is inherent to our our system. -
Why today? What is the urgency?
