My cousins new company truck
-
150 over an Explorer runs ~14'7". It could come just a touch lower, but it's a little close for what I like to run, and this is a 14-6 state.
I should snap some pics of some of the loads these other guys do. Mainly just being lazy and not want to put one behind the cab, and they'll leave the yard well over 15 ft.Kawinige01 Thanks this. -
Well my cousin wont be doing that ish on this side of the countryHammer166 Thanks this.

I really like those lohr units. They have some nice features about them
-
Yeah, as often as not, a 150 or Expedition ends up over the hood, and that ends up 14' 2 or3" unless you hard tie and frame it out, and that's not happening with a new unit on my truck. The only time we really need to be under 14 is trying to make tunnel to avoid Loveland Pass.
I'm kind of spoiled in that I load stuff y'all can only dream of loading over that way. And I only hard tie something once or twice a year, usually a soft top Bronco that I can't back on and so have to pull down for height.Kawinige01 Thanks this. -
I love mine. Being able to stick a big one over the tandem without killing the height on the top back, and those modular pockets, gives me a lot more versatility than a Cottrell. I thought I'd miss the extra length in the belly, but honestly, the extra space behind the cab more than makes up for it. And #9 going flat really helps, too.Kawinige01 Thanks this.

Extra space in the belly? Are the lohr bellies shorter?
-
Yes, IIRC trailer is a foot shorter overall, and belly is not quite 2 feet shorter. On the top loaders, it's the same distance on both from crossmember to back of #3 deck, that's just further back on the Lohr.
Lohr has extra foot behind tandem, too. I can run an explorer flat and be at 6'. -
Truck package is further back and a bit longer, too.
D.Tibbitt and Kawinige01 Thank this.
