So I’m highly considering going on my own as I have the runs if I want them. I’d be hauling just under 50k from NJ to Troy, NY on the regular as dedicated runs. It’s about a 2.5 hour run and no big mountains are involved. I don’t know anything about speccing a truck except that I would be wanting as good of fuel economy as I can get while still being able to pull the hills fine. I know that axle ratios and much more are important factors. I am not against areos either.

I will be looking for a used day cab to start. I’m sure each engine manufacturer has their ones with better longevity. I just want to stay away from as much down time as possible as we all do. Where I work now, we run mostly Detriots. They’re pretty reliable but do go through oil pan gaskets.

I’ll be looking for a new trailer as well. Insurance and all that other fun stuff will come after if I do go this route. It’s just that the runs are there for me if I want to make this happen. It would be a big move for me and I don’t want to mess up. I did read the post about the numbers and my runs would cover those costs. I just can’t go out and get a new tractor if they had any simply because I’m not in that position yet.

If anyone could help to steer me in a good reliable tractor spec for above mentioned runs, that would be great. I don’t want to be pricing out a tractor that would be overkill or not enough for me.

I suggest that you buy a sleeper, if you buy a day cab you you will very limited especially if things don't work out .

The same people you insulted then are reading your questions now.
Blair asked you a specific question, because you made it a point to say that you couldn’t handle loading or unloading, or climbing on top of a trailer. Yet now you’re saying that it was never a problem.

These forums aren’t some big anonymous place. The same way you’re gonna remember me for saying this, is the way people remember you for what you said.

I don’t know anyone that’s going to respond with alacrity after being insulted by being painted so offensively with such a broad brush.

Running that area exclusively? This is an absolute requirement in my opinion. 61CC5ED6-64E3-4AE6-BF4D-387B83E162D7.jpeg
