Should I wait until I get back to apply? I may now be able to answer the phone. I am going on a 15 day cruise to Hawaii and at least 8 of those days are at sea.

My info shows that job was posted 9 days ago (as of this writing).

In life...there are of course mostly no guarantees...but my experience suggests that job will probably stay posted for at least a month.

But again...there are no guarantees here...if they fill that job quickly (for some reason), then that assumption is just wrong.

I would say though....it's probably a safe bet to wait until after the cruise vacation to apply for it.

One (possible) caveat: if you do in fact interview for that job....and get it....that's one you really should try to keep, for as long as you can.

LTL linehaul jobs are some of the best-paying gigs in the industry.

Plus: did you see the benefits that come with that job? o_O Yes, you really should hang on to that one...

But again....apply for other jobs as well (& probably best to do so....after you return from the cruise). Don't just apply for that one....& then wait.

The milk job might be kind of nice. You'd probably do a lot of tranquil, rural driving.
My other concern about local work in California is the speed limit. I was consider applying for some linehaul positions in central california, and then I thought about having to worry about the 55mph speed limit. Probably best to find something that pays by the hour if doing local work there.

Depends, farm pickup is navigating a farmers driveway, usually backwards assuming you're in a semi 365 days a year. Some outfits that don't try to be competitive are using quads. You measure, agitate, pump their milk into your tanker with a truck mounted pump using the farmers electricity. You then wash and sanitize their equipment as directed. Having a mechanical background certainly helps.

A quick glance confirms you will need a samplers license: https://www.cdfa.ca.gov/ahfss/milk_and_dairy_food_safety/pdfs/SW_GeneralStudyGuide.pdf
I have mine, it was pretty straightforward, common sense type stuff.

Like logging, i wouldn't suggest farm pickup unless you go to truck driving school and are teaching others how to back that truck up on day 3. It isnt for the faint of heart and the industry is hard on equipment.

Once you're done picking up the milk/whey you offload in a cheese, milk or whey food oriented facility. No pets. Hair/Beard nets etc. Darn good hourly pay, no time and a half, elds or HOS, AG exempt, paid to eat lunch, nap and wait. Just don't miss delivery windows. Time is $$$ for everyone!

I love it but am doing direct ship all 3 shifts gaining experience. I pick up full tankers that have to go somewhere out of the way where/when no one else wants to deliver.

I spent excessive time backing up at school. I made them spend a lot of extra time on it with me because I wanted to get as good as possible with it. We had to straight line back up, offset back up both sides, parallel park both sides and ally dock. I practiced it over and over and over again. I nailed it first try on my test and only had to pull forward once for the off set.

I applied. I figured #### it... either I wait and miss out or I get a chance. Well, they already called and I have an interview tomorrow morning!
So far they are cool with me starting in about 27 days. Also, it's a Teamsters Union job. They pay is about $27 an hour plus benefits with regular, incremental raises. Seems low to me for union but I assume that changes over time.
