Honestly i have worked in many industries insipidtoast and they all have their takeaways right? It isn't the miles as much as the hours. OTR you're doing more miles if your making money but less hours. I work more hours waiting to be offloaded and for the cows to fill the tanker. It Isn't bad with a napper cab but sitting in that seat all day is hard on the boot tae!

Congratulations!! Get your time in and look for something better later. I hear YRC struggles to keep their drivers.
I worked LTL for many years and couldn’t be happier now that I haul cryogenics.

Awesome. I'm sure that there are better jobs. I'm interested in cryo later on if the money is there. But I am very happy right now. The union contract increased the day I started so I am getting $26.81 while training, which is full rate, and $27.81 once I start the night shift. You get the extra buck for the graveyards. Also, free 401k, full medical 100% paid for me and my wife with ZERO deductibles or co-pays for visits or medications, full dental with no yearly limits and vision that even pays for frames. Plus $.40 increase every 6 months plus "cost of living" increases. Also pretty much all of the overtime I want. 60 hours a week shouldn't be an issue. I did 50 on my first week while training and may have been more but I wasn't even on the road on Monday and Tuesday I just road along. Wed-Fri I drove all day and did all of the docking. I love it so far!

If I can make $40-60k more a year doing cryo later on then it's a no brainer. But if you add up the bennifits I doubt I could find a better job to start out with. So nice to have a union to back me up. I have been pushed around by too many corporations in the past so this is refreshing for me.

I think that's pretty awesome being fresh out of school. Most newbies would love to fall into something like that. Being low man might suck for awhile depending on the shop but the advantages sure outweigh the disadvantages. Hopefully there are many close to retirement. Are you sure about the 401K being free? Does YRC pay the fees? Either way congrats.

I am glad you’re happy there. Don’t worry about having tanker experience if you later decide to pursue Cryo, all Cryo companies train, they mostly look for driving experience and solid work history.

I'm not too worried about it. I don't want to get ahead of myself. I'm still very green and greatful to have a great job, especially for a first job.
However, where are you located and how is the cryo pay, just for future reference?
