Being cancelled is BAD! PERIOD!! Doesn't matter the reason. The DOT doesn't care why and will suspend your authority immediately upon notice from the insurance company, which is usually the same day because they transmit it electronically. You need to get new insurance yesterday before you move your truck(s) another inch. Now, Progressive gets a bad rap, for sure. BUT they are far from the worst either. Commercial liability insurance is just like tires: You must have it to do honest business & because you must have it, its expensive. The company providing it doesn't really matter. Sure, Great West is the best, but you pay for them being the best too! We have Progressive commercial insurance. We check and get yearly quotes. With Progressive, you have the option of paying the year in full. That's what we do. This year, paying the year in full plus the 20% savings over Great West (all coverages being the same), we saved over $5k. What too many people still do NOT understand is, insurance rates are primarily driven by your credit. Even commercial liability insurance. Be it trucking, owning a coffee shop or automotive repair business. In trucking though, long gone are the days where your driving record was the main factor of rates. Factor in your claims history and the claims paid out the previous year by said insurance company, that adds to rates. The insurance company has to recover that money for all the investors so they can earn a dividend at the end of the year. Insurance companies are publicly traded. Keep your credit clean, score high, claims low or none & you get the best rates.

Progressive, I'd stay away from for their unpredictable moves. However, often times, I hear that lacking ethics Progressive agents will provide their clients not bad looking an initial rate to alure them, manipulating this or that on the application, but after a while, once the underwriters take it under actual scrutinized verification, in turns out to be twice as expensive.

Sometimes people are playing delay games with commercial insurance carriers, hoping for some sort of curtesy notice. this way buying additional time to pay the overdue installments. I've seen these tactics used people having general difficulties with cash flow. It does not work like that. It is not an auto insurance premium for a Honda Civic. It is best to put yourself on the automatic payments.

I don't know why automatic payments aren't set up.
It's easier that way. And you don't have to worry about connection issues when making a payment or forgetting it for any reason.
Times are tough. Hard times aren't easy. And it's not only you who struggles with finances for so long.
But you CAN'T forget the dates in this business. Mark it on your calendar if you can't keep up with all the dates and fees due.Siinman Thanks this. -
At the very least, do a calendar appointment that is recurring 7 days before it's due as a reminder to drop the check in the mail.
