Couple years ago I was pulling in to my fuel stop, I saw some smoke up in the distance. Get closer and there is a truck on fire right in the left turn lane where I need to go. No cops or anything were there yet.

I stop a little ways back, grab my fire extinguisher and run up there. Driver is nowhere to be seen. I empty my extinguisher the proper way, pointing at base of fire, etc.

Finally the driver appears. Flip flops, I am not sure he spoke English. NOW he decides he will join me, grabs his extinguisher and from 30' away starts wasting it by shooting it at the top of the flames. I take it away from him and put it to better use.

I didn't realize it at first, but the whole effort was probably futile as at least one of the drive tires had caught fire. I dunno, maybe we slowed it down a little. But we could not get it out.

Now the cavalry arrives, I go back to my truck, they help me back up (it's turning into a traffic jam now) so I can get out of there.

At the time I thought I did the right thing (I didn't think about it at all actually, I just did it). But later on, after some hours of driving down the road, my mind began to wander back to the incident and I started to think about what could have gone wrong, and then I thought maybe that wasn't such a good idea after all. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Just make sure people are safe. Let the property burn. Lawyers will sort out the rest.

Besides, that's one less truck taking freight away from better drivers.
