You are not wrong. Sailing is one of my goals, and one of the biggest reasons we are looking at trucking is to fund that venture of our lives.Nahbrown Thanks this.

Cruising is fantastic, we did it for four years. I don’t want to clutter the forum but Dm me if you have any questions about living/cruising on a sailboat. -
I will, 4 years sounds fantastic. I'll message you here in a bit.

BillyBob's Alligator Eatery might contact you with a great offer. Don't take it. Trust me.

I have a call in with them. Thanks you are right seems like a great company, did some research over the weekend on them.

Given your background in law enforcement and/or the military--I think the above is probably a wise investment of your time.
Just go into this with the understanding that they are/can be picky--but the better carriers can afford to be that way....
Personally, I think your background in law enforcement and/or the military will give you a real edge there--over many of the other rookie applicants.
If I were in your shoes--and things somehow don't work/pan out with DOT, here's who I would look at next (and basically in this order):
- Leonard's Express
- AMX
They have both dry van and reefer fleets.
You could conceivably start out with them running dry van.
Once you get used to pulling a big box--if things get (or stay) on the slow side for freight volumes--you could switch over to their reefer group--and all this, without changing employers.
Another driver here on the Forum ("xlsdraw") from south FL has driven for them--and had generally good experiences with them.

I don't know if AMX has anything of a reefer fleet, or not--you'll have to reseach that own your own (I don't think they do).
I just know what I see over here--they seem pretty busy.

I have a call in with AMX, it was late last week so hope for a return call this week. If not I'll be doing a follow up with them on Thursday.
Thanks for the other companies as well.
