1. Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.

Hedon, so what kind of time of do you get now that you own your own truck? What types of freight do you haul and how is it working out? I think a lot about buying my own truck, but I would think that I would have to work full time then. Some owner operators I talk to say they make over 100 grand a year, and others are just barely holding their heads above water. I imagine if someone can make 100 grand a year full time, that same person could easily work part time and make 40 grand...

Well, actually we are supposed to be signing the paperwork this week so we are still wannabe o/os until Friday. We're getting a van, too.

I think the secret for us is to keep our overhead as low as possible so we're going with an older Freightliner and putting down a fairly big down payment so every month isn't a struggle... hopefully. :biggrin_25521:

Guess we'll know a lot more soon. Ask me again in about six months and I might actually have some good info for you.

Most owner operators are not taking home anywhere near a hundred thousand. They can gross that with no problem, but after fuel, truck payment, permits, insurance, taxes, etc, there lucky to bring home 30 thousand. Yes, there are some exceptions.
