I did my 10-day in Conover in July '09 with Tim and Vern. We didn't take any road trips except the mountain training around Asheville and the city driving in Hickory. But that wasn't long after W/S moved into the current warehouse and set up training there. Before that they had done 10-days for the east in Sayreville.

yes they do so long as u went to an approved truck driving school...the best i can tell you to do is calll out their on monday, the 8th and try and get a hold out Roxy or Sandy in the recruiting department, they are both and waste your time or theirs, straight forward, honest, no bs from them... what they tell anyone, is what you will read here... best of luck at school...

warp, they do, as far as im concerned, i dont think missoula goes on a road trip like over night anywhere, but u will go out and drive around town take sharp right turns, up and down mountians yada yada yada, u know the deal by now warp!!! :biggrin_25525:

Sorry about not posting lately..... didn't mean to ignore anybody!! hehehehe

Quick update on me, Noodler was nice enough to bring me back to Raleigh for a little home time Wednesday night and yesterday. But as far as I know, I should be driving back over to Conover either this afternoon or tomorrow morning for my first solo trip. As of 11:00am ET, I'm still waiting to talk to somebody in dispatch about the details of my first run.

Knowing me, I'll probably be so cautious that I'll try to get to my destination like 24 hours early and just sit and wait to deliver the load!! But I'm fairly certain that with all of Tim and Vern's help over the past two weeks, I'm prepared to do my job safely. And I'm sure I'll get more efficient at it as the next few months go by. (ie. I've been practicing my double-down shifting and got pretty good at it in "the yard" on Tuesday afternoon)

ps. picked me up a nice little 1.7 cubic foot fridge at Goodwill for $25 yesterday. Now all I've got to do is find a decent 2K-3K inverter fairly cheap and I'll be ready to ride without my igloo cooler.

Hi guys, im still here, my computer crashed on me while in training so i wasnt able to post ...But i finished my 10 day in conover and i took my first load up to Wisconson, in a blizzard and white out conditions!!!(2weeks ago) fun huh? but i managed to overcome that herdule, since then its just been put in work racking up mileage.....im up at the Sayerville terminal now, waiting to get a trailer, but i dont think its gonna happen so i guess i'm stuck till monday......on a sad note a sorry to say our buddy Serious Sam only made it 1 week with WS and handed over his keys. He has decided thats OTR trucking was not for him, so for all you newbies that are hyped about being an OTR driver when u get out there it will wake u up.....it will turn the boys to men, i promise you that, and please expect to get lost your first run out unless your just that good or have a Gps......and speaking of a Gps, out here its your best friend, i was looking for a place for an hour and a half and couldnt find it, and i asked the locals and they couldnt tell me...Being so frustrated the plaza i parked in had a Radio Shack, so i went and bought a $99 Gps (not truckers) but it was my last resort, and best $99 i ever spent. After i put the address in, i was at the consignee in less than 5 mins. It was 2 streets over from where i was..(imagine that). Well im gonna go to wally world to get a few things so i'll keep u guys update on whats going on out here....later

Thanks for the informative thread. Hoping to go with W/S in June after my extremely long school finishes, should have about 8 to 10,000 mile driving with the school by the time i get there so hoping that will stand me in good stead.

You guys stay safe out there.

Well I start JCC on monday. WS is def on the top of my list. As was Coastal but their recruiter was an #$$. Said the selma term was closed and they weren't hiring there anyway. So, another one bites the dust. One last ?. Does WS have assigned trucks? And can you drive them home for hometime? And how is their home time? Thanks again guys. Be safe and god bless.

It was 1 day off for every 6 days on. I liked W/S in that you can bank your time (up to 30 days) if you are willing to stay out longer. I may go back OTR in September, but when I drove with them I could take my time in the middle of the week or when I needed it. Some companies require you to do your hometime every weekend or only on weekends, etc. And to answer your other question, they do have assigned trucks. They run Volvos (Cummins ISX) and Freightliners (Detroit). They have shops in the GA, NJ, SFS-CA, and MT (Helena/MSLA) terminals. You may not take your truck home for hometime unless you have special permission from your fleet manager, but even then it is frowned upon (I did sneak mine home once over a weekend en route to a dlvry). What is JCC?

I almost called it quits my first week out too(I've had one hell of a rough start lol) but I stuck it through and it's not so bad anymore, like tim will tell everyone give it a month or 2 before you decide if it's for you or not.
I went through the orientation in conover with tim also, i've been driving like 4-5weeks now I think it's been.
