The last time I looked, going shop rate in the Midland/Odessa area was $150.00+ per hr., and that was ‘independent’s’.

I worked for an oilfield company that deleted 30+ GMC/Chevy pickups due to emissions issues. Government came down hard. The first individual listed was the shop foreman. We talked at great length about this. He regretted the decision after the fact.

Five sentenced for roles in disabling emissions control devices

Most independents around here are about $110-$125 when converted to US dollars.

Seems lately the shops screw things up more then they can get it right and then act like they are doing you a favor by correcting thier screw ups. One installed an air bag for me this week so I could get my 10 before heading out and actually expected me to accept one with a broken base! Then made a fuss because I demanded he change it out first thing in the morning. Ended up leaving late anyway, should have just stayed up and did it right the first time. Anyway if they can’t get a something as simple as an air bag right that gives me zero confidence on something complicated.

If I was in the market for a brand new pickup(which I’m not), I would seriously consider going with gasoline engine.

    #### right. 70K for a diesel pickup, 200K for a tractor, I don't blame anybody in doing what they need to do to put food on the table and getting the most out of their investment.

Been in the shops for well over a decade and honestly have not seen rework happen to the level described on this site.

Give it time and they will be targeting O/Os also. Easy money for em. This is part of the reason I'm undoing mine.

    Good.
You can usually change things you own as long as they don't affect anybody else. Not the case on a motor vehicle that operates on public roads, as well as something that outputs pollution into the environment that is shared with everybody else. Want to do some dumb #### with your car that's not approved? Great, do that and drive it on private property. Want to take off devices designed to clean the air coming out of your exhaust pipe? No. Unless you have some magical chamber that's completely hermetically sealed and never leaks, you're affecting other people with your choices. Welcome to the real world where actions have consequences.
