Didn't you ask this question a few months ago?
Anyways:
1) It would be better to put the truckstop a little out of the way from the major metropolitan area so as to be able to make the truckstop larger which equals more parking.
a) truckstop planners/designers have apparently forgotten that it's not 1972 anymore and most companies use 53 foot trailers and conventionals with wheelbases averaging at least 240". Not 45' trailers and cabovers.
So, make the spaces bigger and put in more spaces. If the truckstop is out in the middle of nowhere, it's ok if there are plenty of spaces and good service.
2) Put the flavor back in the food; There's no excuse for this; Do some research, hire better chefs, do what you have to do to make the food better. i'm not complaining about the price. Also, the waitstaff in many instances needs improvment also.
3) No excuse for disgusting restrooms. We are customers and we deserve better.
So, it's pretty simple really.pappalion Thanks this. -
Please excuse my ignorance, is a CB Shop for cb radios or something else?
-
cb shop for cb radio work and repairs
pappalion Thanks this. -
How large should the spaces be?
-
Pappilon, You give me free wi-fi, a big parking lot, and a clean restroom, you'll be put on my list of preferred spots to stop.pappalion Thanks this.

make the building a square, and have 4 fuel islands, one on each side. i hate everyone bunched up in one spot, usually right as you come in. if the first one is lined up, you can drive around to the next one. if you spread it out you can move 'em through faster. then have a door on each side with a fuelling desk right there with the restrooms and showers.
for the restrooms and showers, make them all tile. floor, walls to ceiling. this way the cleaner can hose down the whole thing in one shot with a pressure washer.
it won't take as long to clean, so you won't need to hire more than one employee to do all 4. when 1 is closed, you still have 3 open.
no fast food, put the restruant in the middle, but have a call ahead take out.pappalion Thanks this. -
How about free wifi, free showers, clean showers and restrooms and great food.
We are working on those. What about Idleair? Do you guys need that or is there something better? -
You just described what is going away. The independent mom&pop.
In the age of bigger/faster is better, they will never be duplicated.
Hard to compete with the big boys giving fuel discounts to attract the major carriers.
Then the driver figures as long as he's there might as well grab a Big Mac or a $5 sub and cash in his magic bonus points.
I continue to stop at my old hangouts whenever possible, where they actually recognize me and serve good local food.
But I realize it's a losing battle. For every driver like me, there are a hundred others who think differently.truckerdaddy24, outerspacehillbilly and pappalion Thank this. -
Thats me too, I head to the mom and pops, stay away from the bright lights. Food is much better. BTW there is no idle air anymore, (Thank Goodness)
