So i usually put the regular mobil oil...cheapest from walmart...just did the oil change 5k miles ago and this mourning i hear a loud tapping noise from the engine....Last time i had this problem it was cause i ran rotella t6 mixed with lucas oil stabilizer .... ran that up to around 15k when i heared the tapping....changed back to just t6 and havnt had the issue for over a yr .... Pass couple months i had switched back to that mobil n havnt had the issue till this mourning.
I heard that it could be the coolant temp sensor not reading correctly for the injectors to fire in the proper order but my temp sensor is only a couple months old ...got it new from freightliner.....Also my injectors are only about 2yrs old n always put hot shot secret on every fill up and sometimes howes. Is it a oil problem? What you guys think?
What Oil do you recommend? New tapping after 5k on oil change.

Always used Delvac mineral 15-40. Never an issue.
Newest engine take 5-30 synthetic.Turbrospeed Thanks this. -
Where do you buy that?
-
I use Shaeffer's 15/40 semi synthetic because of the paraffin and moly. When I first used 14 years ago, Rotella didn't add moly, but does now-at least in T4. I used T4 while breaking in a rebuild done last September then switched to Shaeffer's. The valve chatter on the T4 is a lot noisier. Shaeffer's is more expensive, but I have always run it to 30-35 k- and sometimes further depending upon the oil analysis-before changing the oil. So the cost per mile is not much more. And oil consumption should be a little less.
Rideandrepair and Turbrospeed Thank this. -
