Mustang and Musicmaker I'm with you guys. I love the mom and pop's. Always better food and friendly staff. You actually still feel welcome in those places. When you go into one of the major chains it's like okay hurry up get your fuel and get out so the next truck can get fuel. Then on top of that the restrooms are horrible, stink and down right filthy. Not to mention you have subway or mcdonalds to choose from instead of real food. :biggrin_25513:

    pappalion and MUSTANGGT Thank this.

It would be nice to have the "travel center" part seperated from the "truck stop" so us drivers can get away from the public for a while. A big parking lot with plenty of room to back in/pull out without taking the hood off the truck parked next to us. Staff that make us feel welcome would be nice too, and decorative things inside that you might see in cracker barrell(Johnsons Corner in Loveland, CO comes to mind).

I don't think the size of a truckstop is a excuse for taking a hood off.:biggrin_25513:

    Topless waitresses. (kidding)

    Lower prices or better food.

I like the idea of more fuel aisles, instead of combining TS with 4 wheeler gas aisles.

I like the mom and pops too. It's an adventure weeding through them though.

I hate to be the party pooper here and please excuse my rudeness for being so blunt.
But am I the only one that has noticed the direction this is going?
Not only here, but in an identical thread?
I was playing along until this question, which leads me to believe we are dealing with someone less than serious, or woefully ignorant of the subject matter.
    Maybe even getting played.

MR/MS Pappalion(age/gender unknown), unless you are a youngster, or perhaps from another planet, you have to realize that such an undertaking you propose would cost well into 7 digits, if not 8, depending on the size/location of the real estate involved.
If you are indeed blessed with the resources required to make this happen, would it not also be reasonable to assume you would have contracted a professional agency to do feasability studies along with profitability potential?

It may be you are just having some fun with this. Maybe mentally creating what you envision as the perfect truck stop.
Nothing wrong with that. Lord knows I have an active imagination myself.
I'm not trying to be mean, just wondering how much thought you put into this.
Could it be you stand to gain a large inheritance and this would fulfill a dream for you?
It's not the investment I would recommend, but who am I to say.
Anyway, good luck in whatever you choose to persue.

    pappalion Thanks this.

:Hotel:I hear you. Free wifi, free clean showers, separate the RV's and passenger cars, good food not fast food, call in orders so they will be ready when you are, clean restrooms, fast fuel desks, good lot security and plenty of room (Still don't know how big a space should be) to park and get in and out of the spaces. Decent prices. What kind of decorative things?

If you live in Wharton,TX. why don't you take a ride in any direction except east in you will see a truckstop in less than a hour and it will be free to check it out.:biggrin_255:

actually ive been to quite a few mom and pops with quiet bland food. And a couple that were downright nasty. Most dont have huge parking lots anymore.

Wanna hear something sad? The flying J in benton harbor, MI (exit 30 on I-94), used to be an independant "Famous Truckstop", and there was a seperate building with a "Famous Restaurant" around the area where the truck exit is currently. This was before my time but my stepdad tells me about it.

Sad to see fast food replace real food. But atleast they have a wendys and not a subway there I hate subway with a passion. and the guy that owns all the subways in that town is a jerk.
