I don't think I'm touting it at all. I've been hearing for a long time about how 1099 is so evil. All I'm saying is look - it's worked for me, I'm happy with it, and I'm not finding anything wrong with it. Why do you go around attacking it so fervently?
You're out to spread your W-2 even as the nation of America went and spread their democracy in Vietnam and in Iraq and look how how that turned out for youPaws Thanks this. -
Because 99% of all 1099 "contractors" driving company equipment are misclassified employees in an attempt for both the company and driver to evade taxes.
Has your employer dictated a single thing to you? Told you where to fuel? Where to park the truck? How long you have to stay out before home time? What routes you can or cannot take? Who can repair the truck? Placed a speed limiter on the truck?
If *any* of the above are a "yes," you are an employee, not a contractor, and are evading taxes as such.REO6205 Thanks this. -
Didnt your glorious 1099 company lay you off and hasnt taken you back yet?
-
Are you trying to tell me the idea that not a single American W2 company has ever laid off employees, or had unethical practices?
-
We've Never seen a 1099 in the good company thread yet the bad company thread is stock full of 1099 missteps and rip offs.
Lots of people not getting paid and a lot of operators changing names, presidents, addresses and getting new numbers till it's time to move on again.
If you like your 1099 job, of which I seriously doubt that you are a driver, then like I said. You keep on trucking and don't forget those quarterly tax payments.REO6205 Thanks this. -
I guess there goes your business plan and corporate philosophy

His post disappeared before I posted the law... Oops.
26 U.S. Code § 7436 - Proceedings for determination of employment statusDennixx Thanks this. -
I've paid my taxes year after year for the seven years I've driven trucks. And not once have I ever been audited. And I've demonstrated some of the numbers I've pulled, with a screenshot of direct deposits. What kind of numbers are you pulling? And what kind of stingy home time does your W-2 Company allow you?

If I remember correctly he said he was laid off last November. He recently contacted his former employer but wasn't given any encouragement about coming back.
I think that sends quite a message.
