Alamosa is great country. If I had land there, It would be hard for me not to take the whole summer off. :biggrin_25515:

Biggest reason I went the lease program, was being able to tell them when I would be home, instead of having to beg to get home. And since that time they realize when I say I want to be home, I will be.Now going home is Not a problem, they have gotten me a load home, before the day I want to be home.

I have a few more freedoms than the company drivers do. Just like this trip home, I stopped for a day in Laramie to visit friends, before going to Casper.

Be safe in those great mountains and plains you call home.:biggrin_25525:

I went to Stevens directly after 4 weeks truck driving school, I personally didnt think they were upfront & honest about the amount of time away from home, (just for the training.) They initially told me I could go home in 4 weeks, however, 4 went, then 5, then 6, then 7 & finally on my 8th week out, I walked out. That was back in 06. It wuldn't have bothered me so much, had they just said dont expect to be home for 2-3 months, that would have been fine. Anyway, I love driving, just Stevens & I were not a good match.

I then worked for JB Hunt, I made great money, yes with JB Hunt. Think it depends largely on two things, your work ethic & your fleet manager. I have a great work ethic, & was lucky enough to get a fleet manager who really wasn't happy to just get a pay check, he was as motivated as me to get more money & more miles!

Truckergurl you hit the nail on the head. It does depend alot on you, your work ethic, how you fit into the organization, and the people you deal with on a weekly basis back in the office. I have a good DM, who works hard, and does not push his problems off to the night or weekend crew. There are others at stevens that do, and it causes multiple drivers trouble.

He is honest with me, even when it is not what I want to hear.

I am glad you found a company that works for you.

Lease drivers get pre planned for loads first. Dispatch looks for the closest truck to the load.

In the big picture, if you work smart, make your appointments and communicate, the loads and miles are always there.

TL You mentioned some time back that you're able to take your truck home. Did you have to get any special clearances or post a bond ?

Since I am an alliance driver, I pay for the insurance on the tractor, that is why I can take it home. I have to drop the trailer in a Stevens approved location first. I found one that they approved just 8 miles from home and since it costs them nothing for me to store their trailer there, they were quick to approve it.

Wish I had the money to invest in land, but at this time I do not. Always fun to dream, enjoy the yard work. Besides Wyoming is home for me.:biggrin_255:
