No doubt. As well there should be restrictions for operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of any mind or perception altering substance including prescription drugs.I wouldn't say "not" enforced.
Perhaps not uniformly enforced.
It seems the laws pertain to average Joe Six-pack, but not people with clout in high places. Somehow they seem to escape the penalty phase. Not really.
The active ingredients in marijuana don't generally put a user in a stupor and/or affect their coordination as severely as alcohol does. Nor does pot cause a user to become hostile. Rather they mellow out. Wouldn't it be nice if motorists could mellow out a tad --- without consuming anything to reach that point? For that matter, someone who just had a fight with their spouse and got behind the wheel of an automobile is in an altered state of mind and could hurt someone. Same with driving when tired. It goes to personal responsibility. Some are, some aren't.And our government has been fooling us for many years about the effects of pot.
Comparing marijuana to alcohol is comparing apples to oranges. The penalty for using pot is worse than the effects of pot.
I'd guess very few. But shouldn't you know for sure before you champion a cause? If the two are mixed, which is the more serious as far as dulling the senses? (Hint, it ain't the pot.)
How many pot related deaths occur each year?
How many overdoses on pot?You tell me.
While you're at it, how many didn't consume alcohol?Any police officer worth their weight in salt can tell the difference betwixt being under the influence of alcohol --- drunk --- and under the influence of pot. I doubt there are too many mix-ups involved.
If folks refrain from using marijuana because it's against the law now, and would consume marijuana if it WERE legal sound like law abiding citizens. So why assume they'd change their ways and break the law by driving under the influence?
By the way, many, if not most, states don't sentence casual users in possession of an ounce or less to jail time, --- just a citation and confiscation of the pot.
Millions of otherwise law abiding citizens use marijuana now with no problems other than the law. The harmful effects of pot that the government has been presenting as fact are, in fact, proven to be untrue through legitimate research not funded by the government.
There is a reason why marijuana is illegal and it has to do with big business and industries threatened with a loss of profits if/when marijuana is legalized. Before marijuana was made illegal, there were no problems. Then, our government started scare tactics like smoking pot causes black men to rape white women, and it makes folks jump off high buildings, or makes people go stark-raving crazy with just one puff --- and folks bought those lame excuses without question.
I guess that proves there's one born every minute.
Ostriches, that is.

Some people are just born to it...I have an uncle that has had 9 DUI's and several wrecks through the years. Somehow he managed to keep his license through all of that, he was a bit "wild" in his youth...but he has finally outgrown it and settled down, he' 48 years old now...and drove a truck for 30 years.
Never so much as a scratch while in a truck though, all the DUI's and wrecks were in his personal vehicles....he has a tad over 5 million safe, sober, accident free miles.
One prime example of how todays "driver profiling" system is not always right. -
Don't you think that is rather harsh? I don't consider him a criminal, just a very irresponsible individual with very poor decision making skills. DUI laws are not joke at least not here in IL where they just passed a new law that after your FIRST one you have to have a breath machine installed in your car.
I know someone who got two DUIs (the first one she blew .09 and the second about the same.) Her license is suspended for about 5 years, she spent almost a week in jail and it cost her $20,000 in expenses, you don't think that is plenty harsh? -
Sorry but I don't think that is harsh... First time shame on you, after that I have no forgiviness. The law is the law, it's that way for a reason.
When I was six years old I was hit by a Drunk driver, ran over back over and pronounced dead. I am luck to be alive and actually was in a coma for a total of 16 days, body cast for a year. Can't tell you much cause I don't remember before it happened but I can run a marothon if I need to other than a messed up knee I am God's Miracle cause I should be here tell you this today. Long story short, I can tell you that the guy who hit me went to jail only to repeat and kill a little girl when he got out of jail.
NO NO NO, I don't care for people who don't learn from mistakes, especially that one in nature.Baack Thanks this.
