ALL YOU HAD TO DO WAS GO IN THE TRUCK STOP AND BUY SOME MORE HOURS.

I can honestly say, I don’t miss those days one bit. I ran my d$&k in the dirt and was one of the “go to guys” when it came to getting the freight delivered under almost impossible situations.
Now my philosophy is, if you have to run illegal to make a decent living, your doing something wrong.ncmickey, M22 rockcrusher, Vic Firth and 6 others Thank this. -
I DID 663. HAD ONE HOUR LEFT ON DRIVING TIME BUT MADE IT TO MY NEXT PICKUP FOR FRIDAY. AND WAS ENOUGH FOR THIS OLD MAN.

I drove 1,000 miles one day. Northern MI to Spartanburg, SC. Albeit by car. Then drove 1,000 miles back the next day. I'll never do that again. I can't ever imagine doing that in a semi.

Currently, if I run anything under 640-650 miles, I lay awake tossing and turning because I'm not tired. Heck, if I run a 700 I'm not all that tired, but the box says I have to stop for a 10, and I usually wake up early and stare at the magic box waiting for it to say I can legally go. I had 685 yesterday going from Sheridan to Sioux City, and layed there watching TV until I was bored to sleep, then just woke up with an hour to go until my 10 was done. Not sure how I am gonna sleep Sunday night and Monday night when I get to within 12 miles of my 1st stop on Saturday. I'll just be waiting to deliver Tuesday morning.
nowadays, yes, you can make a good living running less, but I enjoy the thrill of pushing hard. Years ago, 4000 miles a week and have most of a whole day on the weekend at home was just how we ran, and we did that in far less comfortable trucks than today's cushy equipment. Now if you got caught doing that, they'd throw you under the jail and throw away the key if you got caught.M22 rockcrusher, cdavis188, runningman0661 and 3 others Thank this. -

And I hope folks know this discussion about long mile days by us older generation drivers is done in fun and not an attempt to put anybody down...it's an old fart thing, at least on my part

Hell, I can run about 4k miles in a week, and get a restart in now. This is the only company I have ever been able to do that with. I may not finish the restart by the end of the 7th day, but I will definitely be working on it by then.BigR Thanks this.

I hope the shop puts some new driver tires on soon. I picked up a preloaded trailer the other day that had better drive tires than my tractor. Lol
cdavis188 and runningman0661 Thank this.
