Hi everyone. I've been reading numerous threads about the Cats. I have a 2005 Freightliner with a C-15 ACERT @475hp.

Whats the "Low-Nox" file?, Trim codes?, what is the deal with "Aussie Codes"?

My Cat pulls OK, still won't touch my dad's 475 ISX, having trouble with poor fuel economy, i'm told the engine is really emotional about air filters and likes em clean all the time, true?

Can anyone shed some light on this?

BXS or MXS ? 1650 or 1850 tq ? leave trim codes alone( long thread here "Trim codes for Bullhauler ) low nox means retarded timing(not good) this was needed to meet low nox emission standard issued by EPA. there arent any other files availible from Cat. you need a custom program to get rid of it. rumour is Australian programs have a little more timing. Acerts move alot of air so the filter gets dirty faster however I havent noticed a big difference in filter life.

I had my truck in a few weeks ago for some service, they were on the computer and said they were downloading a bunch of new updates...is that the nox file or is this an older thing they've done. How do you tell BXS to MXS? engine S/N? i think it's an 1850tq. I just replaced my filters they were looking dirty, havent had it out yet to see what kind of difference it's made.

The BXS or MXS will be listed as the first letters in the serial number. The updates were probably for higher IVA voltage and a few other software updates CAT has done. The Low NOX "files" were installed from the factory on your motorand they can only be dealt with in two ways now (a tuned ECM from PDI or a Bully Dog downloader).

For trucks that have a single air filter and a ACERT motor the filters will have to be serviced at least every 6-8 months if idle time is high or running in very harsh air conditions. The ACERTs move tons of air and need to breath freely.

x2, this means the exhaust also so if your still running the factory converters replacing them with straight through mufflers helps also.

That would explain why Diesel Doctor was not able to access the ecm on my bxs. Going to have to save the pennies for the BD......
