Well I have a little problem. I have an 03 Freightliner Classic XL with a DD4 12.7 500. The jakes and the cruise don't want to work most of the time. Some time if I have the jake switches on when I turn the fan on they will start to roll and work fine foe a while along with the cruise control. A while could be 5 minutes or 500 miles though. Any clue on what could be causing this? Thanks in advance.

did you try pulling up on the clutch
the pivots on the clutch linkage might be sticky and holding the clutch down just a little bit making the clutch micro switch stay open
it could be the clutch micro switch is on the fritz too

I had a pete that had the same problem. Sometimes they don't get up there and grease the fittings. The dealer said some have weak return springs.

I got one once that hadn't been driven in a month or 2, and it had corrosion in most of the switches, the Jake worked but the cruise would drop out. I used solvent on all of the switches and got it working good, and then I drove it for 4 months.

Almost anything mechanical can have problems, and many of those problems are now electrical.

Thanks for your replies. I tried pulling up on the brake and clutch pedals and neither worked. Like I said before the weired part is sometimes when I manually turn on the engine fan with the jakes turned on they will start working. The hunt continues.

im not familiar with Detroit stuff but i know if it was a Cat I would go to the screen on ET that shows how the ecm sees the sensors and look to see if the ecm is recognizing all the switches and functions
im not sure if Detroit has a feature like that but im pretty sure it would
sounds to me like it needs to get hooked on a computer

the trailer brake arm also has a micro switch in it that will disable the cruise, and depending on whether the jake is programmed to latch and come on when the brakes are applied may do the same thing.
