My husband just left Melton.
We both thought great things of this company until his dispatcher told him he was doing his logs wrong. She tried to tell him to "average" them which isn't legal. She had him pulled in for a log audit and my husband was told that his logs matched 100% so they could not fault him with that. The dispatcher wrote him up anyways. The reason that was put down was because it was not profitable for the company to keep him running if he wasn't running over 2k miles weekly. The problem with that is a driver cannot run 2k miles if he isn't assigned 2k miles and he cannot run anywhere if he is sitting at a shipper or receiver for 11 hours waiting to be unloaded.
Granted the dispatcher was the primary problem for my husband with Melton, but to compound the problem the safety director and other personnel in Tulsa said they agreed with my husband and then supported the dispatcher writing him up. I was encouraging my husband to work things out with them until they all pretty much hung him out to dry.

i never heard of anything like that before at melton, i know their strict on log, maybe you got the story wrong.

Well I got an email from them but I deleted it from a inbox full of junk before I realized it was there. I guess they got ahole of my app. from one of the online driver placement services. I'm interested in flat bed but with freight being slow and hear they aren't running much and being cramped in a tight spaced KW I dunno. I did some time in a T-600 before and didn't care for it because space is limited unlike a Freightliner unless they would have one on hand.

The KW's are small and they don't have a top bunk so forget about using that for storage.

I just recently quit melton. I live on the west coast and it was very very hard to get home on time. Or when needed. Other than that I loved Melton Trucklines. I loved the truck too!! Flatbed work was slow but i usually got 1700-2300 a mile. The usual I asume, Unless you driver refer.. I recomend them if you live In OK, TX, AL , or in the midewest. With flatbed you didnt have to deal with to many wearhouses unless you go to a roofing supply company, I always had a hard time at those places. The safty department was annoying to me but the staff was nice.. GL!

I'm not at melton anymore but melton if not the best one of the best trucking companys around . and i can't say a bad thing about them, love them.

You mean Melton's KW's don't have top bunk's right? Wiley Sander's has top bunk's in most of their truck's but it's uncomfortable because you have to be slumped over pretty good in order to sit up. Only thing I liked about the KW from the experiance is the comfy ride and is well insulated.

I'm gonna drop them a line next week and see what they are about. Can anyone give any info on how many truck's they have on the yard's? If one thing I have learned is that if a company has a lot of truck's sitting on the yard then that's not a good sign. Any updated info on them would be great. All I have done is pull reefer and a few time's pulled dry box which got me spoiled. When I went to Marten, another guy that was a flat bedder from Prime that left Prime the same time I did said once you go flat bed you'll never go back to anything else. My finace` isn't to thrilled with the fact over going back into OTR but money is money now. I have mouth's to feed and I have streched out as far as I could but the money has run out and I need some change in the trucking world. I'm still trying to get into hauling salt water for the gas rig's around here but that may have to wait. As far as Melton, do you have to have a TWIC card or haz-mat because I've seen flat bed's in port's before and also pulling haz-mat load's. How fast do the truck's go?(I'll be ###### if I ever step foot in another 62mph truck) Forced dispatch? Home time? Can I bring the truck home? Is the pay worth the time and effort? Etc, etc.

Melton has 1000 trucks. When I left, which was late November lots of MT trucks were sitting so they could give more miles to Drivers. I loved Melton and would go back If i didn't live on the West Coast. I averaged 2000-2200 miles a week, which I didnt mind since I was getting paid .39 plus tarp and drops. Every once in a while id get 1200 miles or lower. Depending what city i would end up in. Flatbed freight is slow but they do thier best to keep you rolling. they are top notch in my book. If you live west it may take longer to get you home. That is the only complaint I have with em. But If you live east of I35 you should be O.K.
The truck is gov. # 65 mph 12 speed and they have some Freightliners that are automatics. I Drove the KW's and loved my truck. Im guessing that they have forced dispatched I never really declined a load unless I had too. You can take the truck home. I parked mine a couple of blocks where I live in the city. I would never go back to driving Van unless I absolutely had too. It's worth it in my opinion.bullthebeerman Thanks this. -
melton is the best, you cant want for better.
