Tell your friend--STOP WORRYING about finding a CDL job after he graduates.

See Chinatown's suggestion in post #5 above (for WDT)--I see ads where those guys are hiring pretty much ALL THE TIME.

They gladly take/train new CDL grads. :D

OK this isn't an issue, seriously.

When you apply for the work, the 'carrier' has to attempt to investigate the previous employment, seeing he was a driver of a CMV, he needs to provide all the information about the job, the contact (or last contact) info and that's it.

If the company is out of business, then the Carrier has to document their attempt to indicate they didn't get any confirmation and put it in the driver's jacket. It isn't the applicant's problem, the carrier followed the regs, and that's it. I have had to deal with this issue a bunch of times and it is always the same process, I don't ask for tax records, pay stubs or anything else, I accept it at face value as most carriers do.

I have a follow up question, my friend is interested in tankers so I wanted to ask about companies that hire new CDL grad's for tankers or companies that combine CDL school and tanker training.

Does your friend have internet access?
If so, tell him / her to ask for themselves.

See posts #5 and #23--in this same Forum thread, above....o_O

Given the current freight market...and also your friend's location--he will be hard-pressed to do much better than that (starting out, that is).

Your buddy sounds a lot like me.
Military background and a few years of vanlife are perfect prerequisites for becoming a trucker.
Tell him to keep his van and station it at terminals where he would like to take hometime. This is what I did and it was a blast.
I based out of Denver so when I was not in the truck, I could grab my van and camp in the mountains till I felt like getting back in the truck again.
I think I might have been the most stress free trucker at my company.

Chinatown, Jumpman and lual Thank this.
