I work for a smaller company that’s why they’re cheap AF, they don’t give a dam about drivers. Within the past 2 months, over 20 drivers quit, and yet they wonder why.

And don’t get me wrong it’s okay to rescue trucks from time to time but I have a limit on where they send me to and what normally happens: picking up a load and etc. I am willing to do it only if I’m able to bring that truck or empty trailer back, otherwise I decline, and if they fire me oh wells.

As others said, do this on your terms. If the truck is a EPA Environmental disaster let them know and take pictures and send them in. Then tell them you’re going to get it cleaned and detailed.

Fly out, get hotel with dinner and maybe a ####tail, rest up and hammer down some time the following day to make it back one shot

You have to log this, all of it.

When I send anyone out for recovery, I pay them from the time they leave their home until they return. They log is on paper, and turn in any receipts. Their drive time is part of the recovery and is logged.

So how did it turn out ?

no way I’d fly with jumper cables and beg the trash picker upper lot maintenance guy to let you use his golf cart for a jump .

first of all the golf cart is likely gonna be 48 volts . That won’t play well with the computers on the truck .

I’d fly out , get a motel , Uber to the truck and check it out ,
Arrange a road service truck to jump start and air up the tires etc .

Welp, I left the yard at 5am and got to the truck stop around noon. The truck was stone cold dead, luckily I was able to bring jumper cables with me on the flight and the truck also had cables. There were a few dead maggots but luckily there was no meat in the fridge. The entire fridge however, was completely molded and he had over 20 piss bottles everywhere. The truck hasn’t been cleaned for months, he had cigarette ashes everywhere, nasty as heck.

I posted my mission below lol but yeah I jumped the truck from the reefer battery to the frame of the tractor and also had to ask the service truck worker to borrow his vehicle so I can use a spare set of cables to jump from his battery to the main battery terminal, that thing fired right up. Oh and also they didn’t have Uber that will take you to the country side from the airport, I had to take a taxi, it was 1hr from the airport lol. My company had plans for me to work today as well but I told them last minute I wasn’t coming in since I had to rescue that tractor.

I tried that last time and they didn’t pay me for those hours on duty, they paid me a flat rate for the flight which was only $150 and I had at least 10 hrs on duty. (I had those hours added in from safety but payroll said no). This time they gave me another flat rate of $165 from the time I left the terminal till I got to the truck. And they asked to see my log, I think they are going to try and deduct some of my driving time pay and factor the flat rate in it. I’ll find out on my next check, if they deduct the flat rate from my driving time they are in for a huge surprise.
