Sounds like diagnosis was on the right track, but then derailed to "just throw these parts at it and see what sticks" I would like to know (1) results of fuel rail decay test. (2) if Cummins attempted a "backwards" calibration update. I.E. use an older, tested, calibration as opposed to newest one.
towtrucker, Siinman and D.Tibbitt Thank this. -
So I picked up the truck, drive 4 miles and ........... it's doing the regen. Return the truck to the dealer and asked if they did a road test before they parked it. Nope. Truck is back at dealer. Got a call last night. The same. Level 3 troubleshooting techfrom Cummins responsible for those parts put in, that did NOTHING, says I need to replace my less than 2 year old batteries. I told them to put in the new batteries and if the problem goes away I will keep them but if it is still has the same issues I am not paying for the batteries. It's been 24 hours and I haven't heard back. We are at 20,000. Plus on parts ( warranty) plus almost 1500. In stuff I had to pay for. The truck has been there for 2 1/2 weeks and we are no closer to fixing than when we started.
I will update on what happens next. -
D.Tibbitt Thanks this.

#### man I am glad I do not have one of those engines. Wonder if the ECM has some kind of a bug in it causing the issue?
towtrucker and D.Tibbitt Thank this. -
I think it h
After that stop at the dealer the passive / driving regen started not continuously but more than it should until it got to the point were it is now. That it does them pretty much non stop.
I am not a mechanic, but, the issue with the switch an issue with the dash *
( looses it's memory) all started at the same time. The dash memory and regen are still not fixed. Where the initial issue had to do with a regen light on the dash, the dash is still efd up and this regen issue still an issue. It seems they may be related. Or the switch that did not work could also be the problem. These new switches have to be *retrained* to work. I've had an issue with a couple of others as well.
All of what I just wrote was information I have given to the dealer MULTIPLE times. JMO. -
What part of the country is this in?

Final update on the regen issue.
I was called by the dealer and told the Cummins rep came to the dealership and made some adjustments. He wanted me to take the truck and haul a heavy load. The thought was it would relearn the parameters for regen doing that.
That was the last straw. I told them to tell Cummins to kiss my @#$
I told the dealer to replace the regen switch. Told them if that did not solve the problem I would pay for it and if it did they could get Peterbilt to pay for it. I then was told that they replaced the switch as it was reprogrammed 3 times while it was being worked on. After the 3rd reprograming in 2 days the mechanicreplaced it. So I asked is the idle back to normal and they said yes, no issues. Well I took the truck back have 15,000 miles on it and it has done 2 passive regens with no issues. Idle is back to 600 and the switch actually works as it is supposed to. Cummins is convinced the adjustments made by the level 3 tech. Solved the issue. But you will NEVER convince me it wasn't the switch. At least the truck is finally fixed. Maybe if someone with the same problem reads this it will save them some serious headaches.Last edited: Aug 6, 2023
