Lol that part is Salt Lake City can be a bit confusing if you dont know it, or arent paying attention. Probably didnt realize that he should have started merging right about a mile sooner as more lanes were being added on the right. IIRC being in the far right lane 2 miles or so before that means you have to merge right at least 2 lanes, as they are added, to be in the correct lane for that exit.

 

And he thinks there is nowhere to turn around within 500 miles.

 

Nobody sings ballads about the person going to the next exit to turn around.......
There would be no next verse for
"He went the extra mile to be safe and make it home, a little later"
