I have been thinking about driving for many years but now after I lost my job I feel it might be the only thing left for me to do. The state will pay for my schooling here, 160 hours, and that's just driving. I need to get my TIP before classes starts and one of the companies that works with this school for fresh students is Swift. USA and Werner are a couple other ones also.
Keep us posted please. I'd hate to go into a new career blind.

Xiaoen,
I got into this industry after losing my job as well. Try to read as much as you can on this forum. The advice and experiences shared here can really help you be a step ahead when you start school and get on the road. It sounds like you will be starting school soon. What school do you plan to go to?
If you have any questions feel free to ask. -

Good luck Yonder. It will be interesting to hear your Swift story. Best wishes.
Yonder Thanks this. -
I woke up at 5am and got myself ready to go, my menyor however, decided we didn't nee to leave until 8am. So much for starting at 6am. I was told that my log book will be accurate and that he does no driving for the first week.
OK, jersey wouldn't be my first choice to start my training but off we went. With a few stops along the way we made it into New Jersey and were parked by 8pm. We drove 586 miles and true to his word my trainer was never in the drivers seat. To be honest the trip wasn't really bad at all. Although I did end up driving at night which he was hoping to avoid things went smoothly.
My only issue is not being able to downshift as quick as he would like. He didn't complain about anything though and said I actually did much better than most students.
We will be doing our first delivery tomorrow morning a few miles down the road. I am looking forward to laerning and doing more tomorrow. Until then, stay safe out there. -
We delivered in New Jersey first thing in the morning and got a preplan headed for Mississippi. After picking up the load we headed south and got stuck in some very bad traffic that lasted from the south half of Baltimore all the way through D.C. This cost us 2 1/2 hours. Thanks to that little delay my trainer is going to have to drive for a few hours since I will run out my clock.
I am getting a better with my downshifts and got to experience D.C. traffic. So far I am really enjoying myself. Learning as much as I can while having a great time with my trainer. Right now we are sitting in Virginia, need to get some rest before 5am rolls arouns. Stay safe.JustSonny and Johnontheroad Thank this. -
My trainer decide to get some rest and slept a little longer, so he didn't start driving until after 5am. That is fine with me since I would prefer him to be well rested when driving. He is making up the time we lost in Baltimore an D.C. Yesterday so that I can finish up the delivery tonight. I just wouldn't have had enough hours to do it by myself. Right now I am resting in the sleeper waiting for him to finish driving to save my 14. I'll update on the today later.
Johnontheroad and JustSonny Thank this. -
Funny! I was told I was allowed only 5 hrs a day 1st week. 8 on the second and 11 on to the end.
Stories vary greatly!Texas-Nana, JustSonny and jtrnr1951 Thank this.
