A PBS story about "underride crashes".

I can eliminate 90% of all rear underride accidents. Start enforcing the No Parking On Shoulder law, and make it a $1000 fine + CSA violation whether inspected or not.

i can eliminate 100% of all those.

simply make every car, SUV,, motorcycle driver take a written test, and a driving test all over again.

    fail..??

mandatory re-training for like 27 years until they get it right.

Is that going to stop the steering wheel holders from pulling off the shoulder at 5mph after making a sandwich?

The other day in Tucumcari I had to come to a compleat stop on 54 not once but twice because other trucks pulled out in front of me as they left the loves. Completely selfish idiots.

This attitude of “I’m a big truck, they will see me and stop so I’ll pull out in front of them” gets people killed every day.

    Ok....time for a rant.....

Back during covid...the world basically had an "a-ha' moment...and decided we as truckers were (for the moment, at least) heroes (aka, "essential employees").....because we kept the store shelves stocked....and thus, the world remained a worthwhle place to live....even with covid smothering everything.

Now....fast forward to the present--this above PBS-produced "blamefest" paints all us truck drivers with one broad brushstroke as basically incompetent baffoons--who pretty much drive nothing but machines of impending death for any and all who come near....:angry5:

I can't speak for anyone else, of course....but I thought what I saw to be fairly disrepectful as it mainly cast a shadow on our profession.

Nowhere did it say anything otherwise positive about what an essential service we provide to the economy and to society as a whole....or about what we do in our jobs to "make it happen" every day, for the rest of the world.

Because of the above....while it may have correctly pointed out some design flaws in the way equipment has been manufactured, I otherwise found this PBS production to be an affront to anyone who drives a big rig for a living. :angry4:

    ****end of rant**** :banghead:

easy Way to eliminate those accidents

stop driving into the back of vehicles parked off the traveled portion of the roadway .

Watch where you’re going instead of texting and driving

You can bet that the NHSTA and the FMCSA pushed some buttons to get PBS to sensationalize this in order to push their Side Underride Guard agenda.

we already know at least 99.999% of steering wheel holders are idjuts, and we should stay far, far away from them.

at least due to the sheer size of an 18 wheeler, we can see them faster and easier than a dumbarse 4 wheeler.
