I don't think, in my utmost unprofessional opinion, that load boards are simply for fools and you should stay away. If you use them to your advantage they can be a great asset. Using load boards can help you in establishing a relationship with a broker(s) who have freight in those dead areas that you like to run to.

When I am in the truck my number one goal is to stay safe and make money. Period. That being said, I have established multiple freight relationships with brokers, shippers, receivers and customers and especially potentially new customers. I am always looking for freight. Loads boards allow me to see the areas of the country where nobody wants to go and then I exploit that to my benefit.

Use them to your advantage as well. Sometimes its hard to find your own customers in this industry because the market is supersaturated with trucks and their brothers and uncles with trucks.

They do it to lure novice o/o to book cheap loads going in to slow area. "Green horn" looking on load board and thinks he will have plenty of loads back and agree to cheap rate. Then he will realize there is no loads back and have to sit 3 -4 days to get load back. Again on very cheap rate, because afraid someone else can underbid him or just to get out of "dead spot ".
