That Black Bear across from the Sac 49er has made me happy a few times while stuck for a weekend reset. Also the one in Mt Shasta was a good deal back in the day, though I preferred the Hi-Lo in Weed. My ex used to work there!

Yes, that was the way back then. I grew up in SA and long before trucking, we went there all the time. Used to be a great place. I believe during the scamdemic, it lost its fame when they pulled the buffets out. Hopefully BB will do well, but I doubt it with TA running the show.RockinChair Thanks this.

Was the same way up at the Weatherford Petro. When I lived nearby, there were many of the after church crowd that would go in there. It was a pretty good restaurant back then too. Before Jack Cardwell sold out to the TA.BennysPennys and LtlAnonymous Thank this.

I remember a time when people went to truckstops on Sunday or whenever because "truckers know where the best food is....."

Truck stops have changed their business model to take such incredible advantage of their captive audience, that they will never attract the locals again.
We go there because we fit inside their lots.austinmike, hope not dumb twucker and TheLoadOut Thank this. -
Truck Stops used to have the best food at good prices. Not anymore. When I used to travel as a kid with my parents from TX to CA we would hit up truck stops all the time for food. That was the early 80's. Fastforward to today, look at the BS offered now. What a shame.austinmike, haz-matguru and LtlAnonymous Thank this.

That’s still the case, but we have to narrow down. I look for small restaurants with parking lots full of bull racks. That’s where the good eats areaustinmike, northstarfire0693, RockinChair and 1 other person Thank this.

The worst thing for the truck stop industry is when TA and Pilot bought everything out. Remember when we had Williams, Sapp Bros, TA, Pilot and FJ all separate. Plus all the smaller and independent TS out there. Now you have TA and Pilot #### near running everything. Prices have gone up, fast food instead of good sit down places. Its just a rip off now.
navypoppop Thanks this. -
I wasn't old enough to remember the whole T/A Petro merger thing. I never knew they were separate until reading it here. When I noticed a major shift in the T/S experience is when J. Call died in that plane crash. He had set a pretty high bar as far as lot size, food service, showers, etc. When the PFJ merger happened that all went away, and the bar was lowered to what we have now. Even T/A is going to the new model with T/A Express locations.
