It's time for a thread on this. It might be causing my leaky gut and park the truck and lie down epic mood swings.
It's in my quest protein bars and my diet sodas.
I will have to start reading more labels.

I've been researching this myself lately. There doesn't seem to be overwhelming results one way or the other. I guess if used in moderation it's ok. I don't know if it's better to just consume plain sugar or " no sugar products." I have some juice on the truck that has sucralose and I may consume it every other day or less. I'm trying to find the right stuff to drink to keep the A1C down but it never seems like there is a right path.

Saccharine/sweet and low causes cancer. Bad after taste anyway. Never could stand it. Used spartatame/equal in coffee till Sucralose came out. Use quite a bit every day. This is bad news. My wife mentioned it last week. Didn’t pay much attention. Sugar is definitely not good. High fructose corn syrup is probably worse than all of them put together. Causes fatty liver, scirrosis, along with arterial sclerosis, hardening of the arteries. Literally turns them black. FDA will never admit it. All the processed foods stripped of fiber, with added high fructose corn syrup for flavoring, is causing most of the health problems and obesity. Not fats or chloresterol. That lie has been debunked. Theory now is that lack of fat and good cholesterol’s is the main cause of Alzheimer’s. The foods poisoning us. Same companies are invested in the drugs to treat the illnesses caused by the foods. I never paid much attention till recently, having seen the real effects on myself, friends and family. People with fatty liver, and scirrosis that never drank alcohol. Drank plenty of soft drinks, full of high fructose corn syrup. They put that crap in everything.

Don’t know what’s in this crap,but it ain’t good.Tropsnart, silverspur, The_vett and 4 others Thank this. -
Take a look at Bai. Comes in tea flavors, lemonade flavors, coconut. Only 10 calories and 1 gram of sugar per 18oz bottle. Stevia is a natural sweetener extracted from a plant leaf. I used to be a Diet Coke-aholic.Still have to have that occasional carbonation.silverspur, Rideandrepair and bryan21384 Thank this.

Pure sugar/cane sugar is the best form of sweetener we can use. It’s pure; not synthetic. We, as a race, need to get away from synthetics. But, the money is in the synthetic industry. And, the cancers we’ll never cure are caused by synthetics.
Used in moderation, pure sugars won’t cause issues. But, our foods are heavily comprised of sugars and sweeteners, which is why diabetics struggle. It’s not the pure sugar itself; it’s the accumulative amount of all them together. Most ingredient lists of processed foods have multiple sweeteners. It’s a real problem, the world over.
I’ve had a couple times in my life where I eliminated every sugar and all processed foods. Doing so, I started having nose bleeds. My primary said I needed to add a small amount of sugar back into my diet, as the body requires it. That stopped the bleeds. YMMV.silverspur, Rideandrepair, JB7 and 2 others Thank this. -
High fructose corn syrup is plant-based, but, it’s definitely not good for you. Stevia is the same. You might want to read up on Stevia, before letting your guard down.silverspur, Rideandrepair and bryan21384 Thank this.

About 40 yrs ago I read a book called "Sugar Blues". I haven't touched REFINED sugar since. It's no longer in print, but there's another book that has nearly the same content called The Case Against Sugar by Gary Taubes. Raw sugar that essentially evaporated cane juice is ok. I use honey for sweetener and don't buy fast food if I can help it.
From what I remember from the book, refined sugar doesn't make it to your intestines for digestion. It's absorbed directly through the stomach wall to the bloodstream, it doesn'tget broken down. There, the havoc begins. Sugar triggers 2 things immediately, the production of adrenaline and insulin, so the sugar high and the tired. Thanksgiving naps after sugary desserts comes to mind. Then comes the health problems after a lifetime of eating it.
If you think Marijuana is bad for triggering the munchies take a look at refined sugar. It's in nearly all fast foods, like French Fries and pizza. What's even worse is the crap is put in baby food. All 3 of my kids puked the first few times we fed it to them. It's nasty and addictive.
Found the book at Amazon. Sugar Blues by William Dufty. Paper only I guess. Didn't find it on Kindle.Last edited: Jun 25, 2023
