As an OTR driver most of you people would not last 20 MINUTES in my line of WORK and it is WORK, This is a typical day get up do a Pre Trip Inspection make sure my vechile is SAFE TO ROLL. Then start to drive for up to 11 hours. Deal with cars cutting me off for an exit all the time in large cities shippers that hold me for Hours that time has to be made up somewhere somehow. Then if I am unloading deal with a Receivier that might delay me for hours then go grab another load. All this while living for a few weeks in a space that is 8 feet wide maybe 9 feet long and if we are LUCKY tall enough that we can stand up in. For you CynStren I can and have had it done be tested at ANYTIME DAY OR NIGHT FOR DRUGS. If I test Postive for anything Illegal I can kiss my CDL and my CAREER BYE-BYE. Then there are states that say so sorry it may be 120 degrees outside but you have to bake like a cake. Yet a dog in those temps the owner would be charged with ABUSE I have less rights to be cool to sleep or be warm than a DOG in the State of California. Why are drivers so stressed out could it be that States see us as a Revenue Stream anymore. New Jeresy requires us to remove snow and Ice from the roofs of our trailers. Yet OSHA states unless there is no fall protection we are NOT TO DO SO. So we risk a 500 dollar ticket for obeying a Federal regulation.

Wonder how they are going to like my comment posted above

I'll tell you what - driving a big truck, or driving a forklift ... it wouldn't have mattered.

That man was on a collision course with prison as soon as he started packing that buck knife - there are no excuses for violent and murderous personality traits.

Not traffic, earnings or anything else.

As far`as it "getting worse", check out some of the road rage stories from metro Detroit/norther Ohio from the '90s - there was quite a bit of brutalty back then.

Society in general is increasingly violent - and has little to do with trucking alone.

I gotta respectfully disagree with you there...just carrying a knife (or any weapon) isn't exactly "violent and murderous personality traits".

This guy had those traits even without the knife...

Ya really have to let go, some times when a trailer will come across my nose, I will get on the radio and just ask the fella "do you know how close you were to me"? All the while gaining that safety distance and getting the seconds I need to stop back. Sometimes guys are such crappy drivers, they don't even know they cut you off, no signal or nothin.

I disagree. I carried a K-Bar concealed for over a decade, and never pulled it in anger. And yes, I did get into some fights during that time. I guess I just have better control over myself then some people.

Ya know, when I first got my drivers' license, I was 18 years old.

I was TERRIFIED of getting onto/ driving on the interstate...this during a time when "road rage" was merely a prolonged blare of you car horn, and a flip of the bird.

I have been trying to talk my 23 year old daughter into driving on the interstate...trying to teach her how to merge ONTO the interstate, and slide over, (when possible and SAFE), at get-on ramp.

With incidents such as this, it's no WONDER young, inexperienced 4-wheelers are terrified to drive on the highways/interstates...they could get killed for a rookies (them being the rookie) mistake....

IMHO, that 30 seconds it will take to let a driver in, past, around, on, or off, is NOT worth a life!!

Not theirs, mine, ours, or yours.

    Just my 4 cents.

honestly, when I encounter some one that is "raged" it is easier for me to slow down and let them drive on and get annoyed at some one else.

I was taught long ago. Truckers do not make ANY hand gestures. Even a friendly wave can be misconstrued. So I keep ten fingers attached to the wheel unless having to shift.

I've had one for about 10 years now that's half as long as my arm. It's not a K-Bar, #### cop stole mine. But I've never had to pull it for anything, let alone use it.
